I believe this is an artifact of the fact that the passive tone control is an option, but he still wants to provide the bypass control even if you don't order that. It's easy to get used to tho.

That makes allot of sense....

I couldn't imagine an active bass with a boost only preamp and no tone control.

BTW I have been an passive (bass) guy for a long time now, this is what an active bass should be like

I need opinions guys I have a buddy whos is a 63 yr old luthier who's is thinking of selling some of his personal collection of basses.

Understand, this as cream of the crop as it gets, the guy has bought and sold basses for 35 years. These are a few of his keeper jazzes

All original

Great instruments

Healthy

Good charma I've know this guy for 15 years and he is a hell swell fella.Who has helped me personally and professionally.


So any way there a sunburst 63 jazz and Olympic white 66 that I have my eye on. If I liquidate everything I could get them.


I'd still try very hard to keep my sunburst alleva 4 banger.

This would be my one real shot at owning such instruments should I do it?

it depends, what do you think of those two instruments? ive played your white 4 string and thought it stacked up with my 62 j. if anything happened to it, that white 4 string would be my ideal replacement. i also played that sunburst 4 that tommixx picked up and didnt think it quite measured up.

those bound and dots 66's are something though. i one around 10 years ago and wish i had it back.

Well I'm glad I'm not you! I would just keep in mind that selling gear the last few months has been pretty tough.

+1... I have yet to play an old Fender that would make me think about swapping it for my Alleva, and I've played a LOT of old Fenders. If you were interested in the history and vibe, it might make sense. If you are gigging, not so much. Of course, if you could get them for a couple thousand each, that would be a different story!

In my opinion it really depends on what kind of deal he is willing to give you as you could always have Jimmy build you a few more but vintage all original Fenders are very special not only as players but obviously as collectible investments...That custom color 66 is sick!!!!!!!!

You should see the 66 Ocean turquoise metallic that he has.It's faded to a brownish greenish mess but......talk about rare and valuable.

Heres my bass with larger resolution pics - although, I think you have to open each thumbnail to see these better. No idea why. I'm pretty sure cameras, microsoft picture manager and I are just not meant to be friends.

Hey Andrew ... what's up?

Those are some great looking vintage pieces.
Never been a vintage fender guy ... just not my thing.
Funny, though, how jimmy's stuff has led me to that vibe in a 5 string.

I LOVE your white 4 string ... it's gotta be in the top 3 AC 4 strings ... EVER !!!
You've given me indigestion just thinking of how to get some dough together incase you decide to part with it. ... Thanks a lot.

As far as specs, the best LM that I've ever played was a white, ash, rosewood.
I think it was a NAMM bass this past year and may even be the bass owned by Bass7755. (although, i vaguely remember it being trans white)
I dug it so much because it reminded me of my friend Jerry Barnes' 4 string Pensa built by Mas Hino when he was at Rudy's in NYC.
That is a baaaaad bass and this one LM5 felt and sounded a lot like it.
At the time, I had my RA being built and couldn't justify buying it.

Now, I've been contemplating what I can make better use of ... a KBP5 or an Ash, Rosewood RA5. I haven't been a Pbass guy for years, but I already own 2 amazing Coppolo jazz 5's.(my limited 5 & LG5)
Gotta do something with the neck from my RA5 that was too light for me.
I'll keep ya posted.
