What color is it? Serial number? Woods? Other identifying marks? I live near DC and would definitely know an Alleva on sight, so I'll be on the lookout. Please get this information out to improve the odds of locating it.

+1.. my LPB LG5 originally had a badass.. i think the alleva/hipshot was more to my liking and more open on top too.. the badass also had sharper edges which i did not care for.

i hear ya.. i have not tried the new P5
pup yet.. some people love it and some love the original from what i have heard.. the original is warm and FAT...

it is a huge event to undertake the making of that design and he pulled it off pretty well... I mean he cuts his bobbins, winds them, magnetizes them , lasers the logo into the covers then pots them in wax or whatever... on top of doing everything else.. cant wait to try it out this week

The site is still under construction. The email and phone contact info are at the bottom of the home page of the website though. Just like the Sadowsky NYC deal, it's best to just contact Jimmy directly about pricing.

The RA 4 and 5 are alder bodies with 70's spacing like 70-72 jazzes indian rose wood or maple wood be about right.

LM and Modern (four string) are the ash bodied 70's spacing and are most common with maple boards ala Marcus era jazz basses.

1600 seem to be well.....a LG with a figured top wood on the body.

The alleva bent plate 5 sting bridge will have a more vintage (IE narrower frequency range less sustain)tone to it with less sustain than the high mass bridge that would have a wider frequency range and more sustain.

The Nitro pain t was used by fender untill 69 I believe and then used on just the headstocks of 70's basses. It is considerably more fragile than poly. It might sound better, Jimmy thinks so. I feels and looks really nice.It will check/age and discolor over time.

What I'm doing is paralleling the models to classic fenders which are the inspiration. Of course you can mix and match stuff for a unique thing.

Personally I like to spec stuff as close as possible to the era fender I'm trying to replicate.Thats just me and my thing.

That was TREMENDOUSLY helpful! I have a 1976 ash & maple Fender Jazz bass I would love to A/B with an Alleva Coppolo Modern sometime the way Ken did on his LG / LM clip.

I hadn't thought of that before. Many players like to play over a pickup, unconsciously using it as a narrow finger ramp. The difference in playing position would definitely end up adding to perceptions in tone. Good point, thanks.

CBS moved the bridge pup about 1/4" closer to the bridge. If you consider the physics of what's going on, that position will tend to emphasize more upper harmonic content; simply because those vibrations have a relatively higher presence as you go toward the bridge.

Did CBS's pickup move just add something to the tone? Or was there a trade off. (e.g. add high end sheen, lose ___).

I noticed they weren't working too, which is one reason why I've been relying on this forum so much.

It's the only Modern 4 ever made, so it's the one shown on the website.
Maple/Ash ...

As far as the website & pricing questions go, calling Jimmy is the best thing to do right now. He's swamped building basses for the NAMM show next week and I know for a fact that he hasn't had a chance to even look at the new site since it went up & that he probably won't make time do it until after NAMM (Jan 15-18)

I was fortunate enough to have originally had this bass while Jimmy was making a Standard 4 for me. KILLER bass and VERY unique in that is a one off as mentioned. After playing the bass for a couple of days I called Jimmy and told him it was great but I really wanted the Standard instead and he was gracious enough to all ow to make the change again...She is blocked and bound and is quite the looker! I know he must be going crazy to have lost her. I can see it now...some crackhead probably tried to get $100 at a little pawn shop somewhere and the owner said Alleva-Coppolo? What the hell is that? This must be a cheap bass, here is $20 get out of my store! Imagine someone popping into a Pawn Shop and seeing $75 on it....I would almost bet money it happens. GOD I HOPE NOT!!!! Good luck and I will keep my eyes open down here.

Hey guys,

I just came back from the shop ... man, Jimmy is really putting his foot in it for the NAMM show this year.
I'm been swarn to secrecy, but the cat will be out of the bag in less than a week.
Also, Jimmy took in an early LG5 (#12) on trade from Tom Barney.
It's Burgandy Mist / Nitrocellulose paint.
The controls are vol/vol, treble, bass. It has Badass II bridge and an electro socket input jack.
You can also string the B through the body.
It's for sale immediately.
Enjoy the pics.
