I personally didn't dig it. The low shelving point is very low, and the treble shelving point is super high (like 10k or something). I assume they did that so the bass and treble wouldn't sit on top of the switchable mid when set high or low. It sounded very pure and quite hi fi. I prefer a two band with a big more meat to it myself. It's a quality pre though, pure personal taste.

Thanks for the opinion. Pure and hi fi don't sound to my liking, but the Tone Hammer, which I thought had the OBP-3 in it, seems quite different. The bass is at 40 Hz and the treble is at 4 kHz. That's the same as the Sadowsky right? I got the info from here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Does anyone know how the Alleva LG5 necks compare to that of the Nordstrand 5 stringer? I know the LG5's are 34" an the Nordys are 34.5" but how do the actual contours differ?

I'm all over the tone of these things but will never get to play before (if) I put in an order. The reason why I ask is 'cause I just love how the Nordys play but don't dig their tone as much as the Alleva's.

I play two Alleva's as my primary instruments, and owned a Nordy for about 48 hours!

The Alleva necks are MUCH bigger feeling. Also, they have a non compound 10" radius (or maybe 10.5). So, the fretboard is quite curved.

I LOVE the Alleva neck, but the Nordy neck is much smaller feeling in almost every dimension, and has a much more 'modern boutique' feel due to the complex radius that results in the board being almost totally flat above the 12th fret.

The Alleva's feel much bigger to me IMO due to the fact that there is quite a bit of wood outside of the B and G string. They are 19mm spacing. I can't remember if the Nordy was 18 or 19.

I didn't dig that 'modern' feeling, flat, thin profile Nordy neck at all. The Alleva 5's feel much more like a 'big old Fender'.

Edit: I'm much better describing tone than neck profile, so wait until you get more responses to get the full scoop.

...and to me it even feels pretty flat down low. He starts with a big radius and goes up from there. :)

:D If I remember correctly, he traded his gold, ashtray laden, AC to some Aguilar executive who owned the aged oly. white one. So, ya can't really blame him for the aggie preamp being there initially. :)

I don't keep specific notes on the radius and string spacing but the JO5 felt flat and wide.

Per my previous post, maybe this picture will give you a little more feel for what I'm talking about with the neck profile. The bridge is full 19mm spacing, and you can (hopefully) see that there is quite a bit of fretboard on the outside of the B and G string. I really like this (plenty room to dig in, etc.) but it does give the neck a 'wide' feeling profile.

Ground is typically afternoon, but this one's 2-day. Not sure. I can't post any pics until tonight anyway, but I might be able to squeeze out a quick preview/first impressions thing. We'll see. :)
