For a fretless 6er with Nordstrand P/MM pickups and TI Jazz Flats, any recommendations on a pre-amp? Normally I like Bartolini for a smoothed out fretless tone, but I'm thinking if this has flats, I might want something with a little more bite. Half-tempted to get a piezo.

What ideas do you have for piezo brand. I was asking Cliff about using just a piezo pickup system for my new 7 string fretless. I really love the sound you can get out of them.

I have an RMC piezo and Bart pre on my Conklin 6. It's alright, but my build specs of 35" scale, stainless roundwounds, dymondwood fingerboard, etc, have it fairly bright sounding. With piezos being a little sensitive to string tension, I'd still advise shortening the scale length a bit to avoid too much zing on your highest string.

If I went the piezo route, I'd be changing to flats and chambered, so I might as well also try a different piezo. Given the pickup combo, I might skip it because I should have a nice array of tones in the magnetic pickups.

Well, it sorta went like this:

nad: "Hey Cliff, I want a bass! I like walnut, it's purdy."
Cliff: "Well, I have a nice one piece walnut body blank that--"
nad: "GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!"

Then close to a year later something similar happened...

nad: "Hey Cliff, I love that bass you made me! Can I have another?"
Cliff: "Well, I have a nice one piece mahogany body blank that--"
nad: "GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!"

Please note that those exact conversations may or may not have happened. YMMV, IMHO, TMI, OMG, etc.

You're hilarious.:D

From the news...

"Price increase coming."

Anyone happen to hear if this pertains to new orders beginning in November only, or does it affect people with money down...those in the queue already?

I am wondering the same thing. One would think that our oders are "placed" and should not see the increase, but....these is a tough times.

Damn. That's far sexier than I expected already. I'm even more stoked! :hyper:

Now to decide if I should flop down a deposit for a third Bordwell before the price increase... :o

Of course, if your prices double your basses will still be more than worth it! :D
