Man, those are some REALLY beautiful tops on there... I really should avoid that page at all costs. 
BTW, mine is still just showing up as "Hold for Vic". Lemme tell you, we've gone WAY past that.

I must confess...the thought did cross my mind for a brief second as I was admiring the photo!
Then I snapped out of it.
Does anybody have any info, experience, photos of any finish other than the ol' oil rub (giggity). I am thinking about a possible spalted maple with an orange tint.

I'd be interested in seeing a finished example, but this might be the perfect bass for a BBQ blues gig. I might gain a few pounds if I bought a bass like that.
How about a Cedar body with a Mesquite top and a BBQ sauce gloss finish.
On the serious side...I really think that Mesquite would make a killer top! Just look at that:

LOL, call me crazy, but that kinda sounds like a good idea.
I kinda have my doubts that Cliff would want to apply the BBQ sauce gloss finish...you know how messy BBQ sauce can be
He might go for the Cedar/Mesquite top though.

I have a News Update:
I just sent Cliff an e-mail to place an order and place me in the build that will be completed 11 months from now. (I've been e-mailing back and forth with him a couple of times since last week.)
I originally wanted a Fretted SC5 Delux with:
35" scale
Swamp ash body
Some kind of over the top Walnut one piece top wood
Birdseye Maple Fretboard and PUP covers
Classic Neck
Nordstrand PUPs
I forget which preamp, but I think it is the Aggie with the three switch for parrallel/ series and Active/Passive
Black Hardware
AFTER looking at these three threads (it took me all week), I'm thinking:
Fretted Ball Bass 5 Delux instead of SC5 with:
34" scale instead of 35"
Swamp Ash body
Over the top, one piece Walnut top wood
Classic Neck
Birdseye Maple Fretboard
Walnut PUP covers instead of BEM PUP covers
Same electronics
Black Hardware
Thoughts:
1. I originally wanted to order a SC5, but that Ball Bass is really growing on me!
2. I've wanted a CB Bass since at least 2004 when I met Cliff one afternoon briefly in Orlando. (I live two hours away.) I am pretty ready to order the bass, but figured I'd get in before the price increase.
3. I'm thinking the Birdseye Maple PUP covers against a busy Walnut top would be too over the top. So I'm thinking more of the Walnut on the PUP covers to match the body top wood.
Question for you guys:
1. I've played only 5 stringed basses that are 35" scaled so there are no issues with B string tension. (They are Roscoes.) But after seeing some of you with 33" or 32" B strings, I'd love to get back to a 34" scale. How is the tension and sound on the B strings on your 32, 33 or 34" scaled basses?
Of course any comments, even if not answering my question, is welcome.

Add another even higher string and I'd consider fanned or shorter scale, but that's just me. With Cliff, I don't worry. They're just as nice as my 35" scales from Conklin, Rob Allen and others.
