Nice bass!!!

If'n I could request opinions, what are some neat-o tops that are also a good fingerboard? I already have bird's eye maple on my 1st CB. Our original goal was pale moon ebony for the top, but no dice finding enough.

Tops I already have: figured bubinga, spalted maple, koa (generally not suited for fingerboards), douglas fir, redwood, and walnut.

I thought crotch katalox might be nice. Cliff wasn't too sure about availability.

Thoughts on ziricote?

Other suggestions? This will be for a fanned fret 7, which will likely be after I order a P/MM fretless 6. Was thinking about headless vs. standard, and I'll probably end up with a headstock.

Are you wanting the board and the top to match? I asked Cliff about a Ziricote board, and he didn't seem very keen on doing it due to its rigid and unstable nature. I also asked about Cocobolo, but was again told that it's not an idea wood for a board. Cliff said something along the lines of, "it will sound as if you wrapped your board with a wet sock; Cocobolo is very oily."

There's an article w/ Michael Tobias, floating around the Web, where he praises Pistachio boards, which I think look pretty sharp.

You could do Macassar Ebony w/ Macassar Ebony...?

Cliff mentioned that Ziricote wasn't a good fingerboard, so it's off the list.

I can inquire about pistachio. The top he used was amazing.

I'm interested to see that new shape and the new headless. Kinda holding off on ordering the P/MM fretless until I see the headless and Dola.

Even though I have a piezo on my Conklin and Rob Allens, I'm considering adding a piezo. I'd assume with TI Jazz Flats and a Bass Mute, I'll get some different tones than my Conklin.

I've got TIs on my fretless w/ piezo. Love the sound.

^^^ I'm looking forward to seeing this one built along with the new body style.

The Pau Ferro fingerboard and Walnut top bass sounds sweet too!

Finger/Fretboards have been posted in today's updates.

I'm 90% sure mine is the second from the bottom. It is a pau ferro with lots of an alternating horizontal blackish/brown grain. Can't wait to see it next to the Walnut.

BTW: The last two posts here are all mine. Anyone else excited about this group of builds?
