Hey guys. Here is some pretty good footage of my new signature bass in action with nick colionne on Wgn news. The mix is pretty good and they always seem to get a pretty accurate bass tone. Sits nicely in the mix.
Cliff has got my zebra bass right now and is giving it some loving but once it gets back I plan on doing some proper video reviews of all three of my basses.
So a question for y'all. Would you rather hear the bass recorded thru the camera and a nice amp or recorded direct thru a digital setup. Right now I am leaning towards a doing it in a killer recording room thru my markbass amp but wanted to gets some more input. Trying to do things on he relatively cheap.

My preference is direct, but I'm not going to complain if you choose otherwise.

I would rather hear it with camera thru an amp to hear how it sounds live. So many boutique basses sound great by themselves but then put them in the mix of the band and they get lost. I'm a big Jazz bass fan so I'm trying to go for that vibe with my new CB bass. Ash body, Big singles 70's spacing but will look nothing like one! Headless SC with full ramp like your other basses. I enjoyed some of your video's especially playing Coltrane's Moments Notice. An older one but very impressive!

I guess I can see both points of view, in which case, it depends on your goals. If you just wanna' hear how it cuts a mix, but don't really care as much about hearing exactly how the bass itself sounds, or in a studio type mix, then live is best, and hopefully, with a decent enough camer/mic that it wouldn't be so distorted as to defeat the purpose.
My point is usually the bass is played in an ensemble setting. I would like to see how it fits in with other instruments. Even in a recording setting you will eq the bass differently if it is played alone or with a band. How does it sit with the kick, toms etc.

Is that middle one Tulipwood? If not what is it. I am trying to wait a few months but am really itching to order a bass from Cliff. Always loved the look of tulipwood. The other two are freakin sweet too btw...

Yep, it's Tulipwood, and I love it!
I can't recommend Cliff enough, he's a great person to do business with, and has become a friend over the years. Do your research and you'll find that he has a lot of happy customers for a good reason!

So my Zebra bass is on its way back to me and it looks like I will be doing those videos within the next couple of weeks if all goes according to plan.
I think I will do a short example with a trio, so that you hear the bass in the mix. Then do a breakdown of the bass alone, so you can hear it solo. Seems to be the best of both worlds.

Got to try out two cb basses over the weekend..and Im sold, I am now trying to come up with the deposit to get my name on the build list...
