Also, did he give you an ETA on completion? Wondering if I'm in the next batch, or the next next batch.
This will be #4 in my series of 30" bordwells. Dola, Buckeye top, roasted neck, bartolini 2J squared pickups, underhill filter based preamp (cali dub with a treble filter). Haven't picked the strings yet, but definitely going roundwound on this one.
I don't have an eta. He mentioned finishing up specs in the next couple weeks, and his builds are typically 3 months-ish if I remember correctly. So you're probably 3 months from spec finalization and 6.5 months to delivery.
I will confirm specs with him next week, so I think that puts us in the same batch for a late summer delivery. Sweet.
Incoming Thursday!!! Light, 33", Spanish Cedar, Birdseye maple back, amboyna burl top with blue epoxy, pau ferro board, Ulyate tic tac dual coils, Trickfish pre, small frets. Pretty basic.

Does the position of the strap button on the SCB shape affect the reach to the first position? Being on the 13th fret, as opposed to the 12th fret for a FSO?
Just wondering if 33" feels more like 34 because it's a bit further back. Doesn't look like it would make a huge difference, just wondering.
Nope, not at all. It doesn't feel foreign or like a compromise. It just works!
Thanks, I'm leaning 33" but it's a tough decision as not something you can change after the fact!
I always found 33" much like 34" but just a little easier, I didn't really find a huge difference between the two scale lengths, but always noticed I was a little quicker on the 33" and had less strain.
That's good to know. I like 32" but I do feel a little cramped above the 12th. And one of the goals with this new build (with 24 frets) is to spend more time up there.
My #1 is also a 34 fretless, so being a little closer to that would be good too.
If familiarity and muscle memory are important, I would go for 34". All my basses are now 31.5", and it is nice that they're all the same, in scale length at least...
I play doublebass, 33" scale and 34" scale. No problems with muscle memory for me, especially between 33 and 34. Like it was stated above, it's just easier on the hands and the notes speak a hair quicker (for me) on my 33" basses.

Still settling in with my first CB, but I wanted to weigh in. I have a 34" scale, but I notice that it feels smaller than my other basses (all 34"). It hasn't messed with my muscle memory (pretty important on fretless), but I definitely notice a difference.
I think this is because Cliff puts his bridges so far back on the body. It's why I played 35" scale CB basses for so long until I got much older and started having medical issues with my hands.
