Club Bordwell Part 4

I love the Barts in there. My inspiration was a Pedula MVP4 with those same Barts I one owned. I loved that pedulla. Best sounding bass I ever owned. However the weight plus the nerve damage in my shoulder meant it had to go.

This one is 2.5 ponds lighter. Sounds wonderful. Strung with TI Jazz Flats.

I'm really impressed with the Barts in my 5 string and in my son's new Jazz bass from Cliff.

Ti flats are the jam, I have them on both of my CB P basses. I just tried their round wounds on my 10 anniversary CB bass and I really dig them as well.

Yeah, I have a set of the a jazz rounds waiting to go on my bass with the nordy DCs. That's my current roundwound bordwell. With only 3 30" Bordwells, I have flats on one, rounds on one, and tapes on the fretless semi hollow.

Right now I have GHS balanced nickels on the DC bass, and they sound great. I really want to try the TIs though.

Of my next 3 builds I'm hoping to do Dogal Hellborg's on 2 of them. Flats on one, rounds on the other. The short scale versions should be out any time now.

Think I'm pretty set on body and neck specs. Just wondering on electronics. This will be my one and only custom, so now I'm actually wondering if I just make it a P-bass. Then I'll have a P and fretless Jazz and I'll be set. Maybe need to spend some time on you-tube with sound clips of various things.

Or if you're looking for something completely different, consider the Nordy Big Blademans with the JC preamp. I did that for my fretless 6 and it just kills it. Very present, modern tone which could be a nice contrast to a J or P if you already have one. I was trying to get close to a Wal tone (my fretted 5 is a Wal). Doesn't nail it to a T but it's definitely in the ballpark.

Of my next 3 builds I'm hoping to do Dogal Hellborg's on 2 of them.

I'm really curious about Hellborg's new strings. I tried his DRs years ago. His Dogal strings are definitely different in construction than the DRs. It will be interesting to see what you think about them.

I did the nordy DCs in my bass with similar top. Small world. You gonna do the parallel, series,single swith(es)?

I'm super intrigued to see the custom shape with a 4 string. I said to Cliff I'm 99% on his standard SCB, but could change my mind depending on how yours shapes up. Enjoy the build!

The weather's getting cold here in VA, so my house heater has been running.
This is typically one of the times of the year I wax my basses and oil the fretboards.

I usually do this in the late fall and early spring… and then as needed depending on how much I play each one.

Cliff did a great job finding me a Brazilian rosewood board for it. It's been my go to bass since I've gotten it.

I'm in no financial position to buy a bass, and I am in no need for another bass, but that bass makes me want to ignore both of those realities for sure…so I'd say it's a home run!

This is my second Mac Ebony topped bass.
Mac Ebony looks really dark when it is not in natural sun light.
Here is the bass in my room with the regular light on.

Here it is in front of the window.

Just thought I'd share this for anyone thinking of getting a top like this. The bass sometimes looks like it is all black in dim light.

I also just appreciate the thoughtfulness of the design…the access to the upper frets, the way I imagine it sits on your leg when seated, the placement of the bridge, where the upper bout/strap pin is…it's a very well thought out bass guitar from a design aspect with the player in mind.
