Awesome!!! Cliff and I have been discussing some really fine/miniscule details.
I've decided to give 26 frets a shot. I had previously been entertaining the idea of 28, but the extra frets and truss rod route would have moved the Nordstrand Dual Coil away from a known sonic/tonal sweet spot. 26 should allow everything to stay where they belong.

I picked up a used CB on the forums early in the summer. It was pretty much a break out the CC and suck it up kind of deal that I just had to have this bass. It's paid off now, so I guess it's safe to call it mine.
It's become part of the standard bassfuzz.com test package, so I feel pretty safe saying it isn't going anywhere.

I got that same electronics set-up on my fretless! You're going to love the added passive tone control!
I don't have the all wenge neck though!

As of today, I think my specs are finalized. Just looking at other hardcases. Should be sending payment in 2 weeks! I'm very stoked! It'll be nice to have a fretted 6er.

As you might know, I´m owning that macebony topped 4-string Ball Bass as attached. I´m really loving the way, that bass plays and feels, not even talking about the sound options the ACG preamp offers...
But, it´s a 4-string and I´m only playing it for fun at home, while needing exclusively 5-strings for the band. It gets way to little play and I´m already in the cue for another 5-string to be finished somewhen November (besides the currently built 5-string fretless Rami).
Would you do the step and place it in the classifieds?
I really would need the money for other equipment, instead of owning a bass just for fun. On the other hand, I put so many thoughts into this bass and Cliff built a piece of art. What would you do...?

If your profile info is correct, I see that you have a Ray as your 5. Why another 5? I'm not bashing the 5er, but I've discovered I typically like a 4 or a 6. If I'm using the extra raneg, I grab a 6. If not, a 4 will do.
I think you'd take a hit on the CB, although you might get closer to what you paid with your Ernie Ball. Naturally, most CB owners probably wouldn't advise selling your CB....which is often reflected in the notion that we react to our CB by ordering another.

That CB is one of my favorites.
To want to sell it is hard to take, but if it gets a good home, like my home for instance, hey, you've accomplished something.

Yeah. I thought about that one for my upcoming Rami, but my eyes see figured walnut for a Rami. Definitely something that would look OUTSTANDING on a C or D bass.

If you sell the Ray after you get your next CB, do you still need to sell your 4 string? As I'm getting closer to 15 years as a musician (LOL, still not much to show for it) you gotta realize that your needs can change over the years. You might need the low B on everything now, but you might find yourself in a situation where a 4 string hits the spot. I'm not much of a slapper, but I've always found it easier on a 4. Besides, on such a specialty instrument and the given economic status, it would be hard to sell your CB without taking a decent loss. Keeping it around for that rainy day might not be the worst idea.
To give you an idea what I've gone through, I started out in hard rock where I needed a lot of dropped D tuning stuff, joined a prog metal band where I used a fretted 5 a lot, joined an ambient pop band and was using a different bass for every song, played in a jam band trio and played fretless all the time, and recently started jamming with a band that's more along the lines of singer songwriter folk. I think if I sold the basses I wasn't using at the time, I'd be turning over a lot of basses.
Hey guys, just wanted to get some thoughts inputs on my upcoming bass build with Cliff.
I'm on the fence about a 6 string with regards to some of it's specs. As noted earlier in this thread Cliff built me a 32" 4 String which I love and I'm now on deck for another build and I'm sort of torn over some ideas. I'd like to get into the 6 string realm however I don't have a ton of experience on them, so all of you 6 string players and those who have had Cliff build them a 6 you're input would be greatly appreciated.
I know Cliff has made a couple 32" 6 Strings now and they've gotten great reviews. I really like the idea of a 32" 6 string because of it's compactness and the fact that it will be much less of a physically demanding bass than a 35" or 36" 6 string. So that's my first debate...scale length. My second debate is the fretted vs. fretless option. I really like the idea of a fretless 6 but having very little experience playing 6's I kind of feel like I'd be throwing myself in the deep end.
For all those that have 6's, how did you find the transition from a 4 string? I think I have fairly decently sized hands but I've seen some 6's that have baseball bats for necks which concerns me slightly. I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. At the end of the day I'm sure it will just come down to practicing getting control of those extra to strings and muting them but I just wanted to get some others views on making the jump to 6.
My final debate is with regards to electronics. I'm leaning towards nordstands for this build, I went with Kent Armstrong last time (active/passive switch, bass, treb, mid controls) so I figured I'd mix it up. Tone wise I'd like something that can provide a lot of clarity the entire range of the neck. I'd like my low notes to really bark without sounding muddy and I don't want my higher strings/notes to be too too trebly or harsh. I know Cliff has built a lot of basses with nordstrands so I just wanted to get some of your thoughts on them and maybe suggestions for a 6 string set up.
