I finally "get it" when it comes to j-style basses, and have found that two passive volume knobs give me all the tonal options I need, but I want something a bit more boutique than my Lakland Skyline. Since US Laklands don't quite offer what I'm looking for (and are far beyond my price range anyhow), I'm going with CB for my high-end-but-old-school jazz needs. Or something like that.

I've noticed a lot of CBs are super lightweight, which isn't something I need, but when I've owned a few sub-7-pounders in the past those 2 hour setlists just seem to fly right by!

Well, I've been cautiously eyeing these basses for some time now, so today I finally made a deposit on a passive 4-string Ball bass. I have been looking at several other luthiers lately but the aesthetics keep me coming back to the Bordwells, not to mention the killer prices. Here's to waiting!

I doubt you will regret it. I love mine, it's the best bass guitar I have.

I'm glad I went with Cliff.

I have a ball bass with a "Modern" neck, wenge fretboard, and Walnut and, at this point, I think it will be going to the grave with me.

Great choice going passive too. My next CB will definitely be passive.

Cliff and I have been working out specs on a short scale four stringer with some really cool features over the last week. I think the build finishes in a little over seven months from now!
