Well, my new bass is taking shape-so to speak. Tom does have alder and sent some images for a top based on my preferences. The bloodwood top is particularly stunning, but I also love the bookmatched cherry and it will be more understated and beautiful. Just one question for the Ryan owners. I play 90% standing up, but can the Ryan be played comfortably sitting down?

what fingerboard will you choose??
the ryan can be played comfortably sitting down, but will need a little balancing with your left arm. the lise and anne will float completely free of support. I'd say tilt if you do 90% of your playing on a strap, it will be fine for you.

top = walnut
center = cherry
bottom = bloodwood
Right?

It goes wenge, cherry, bloodwood from top to bottom. I think all of them would make a special bass, but that cherry is probably the more understated beauty I am going for.

I don't know about the fingerboard yet. I was thinking ebony, but am open to suggestions. I think cherry top, ebony fb, maple neck with black hardware would look good. Thoughts?

Let it be known that I'm biased as mine is just that, as you know....I love it though! We could have sibling basses!!!

if you choose a dark or bloodwood fingerboard, go with the dark brown on top, that's the cherry? if you go for a maple fingerboard, go with the bloodwood top. just my since you ask
The dark wenge top with a bloodwood fingerboard. I would love to see that bass! It would probably a bit too racey for my chuch gigs, but wow!
The wenge is beautiful. So is the cherry (wavey, can you photoshop that top for us and bookmatch it??). Bloodwood is great. Koa is beautiful. Spalted maple is wild. Pale moon ebony is gorgeous. Macassar ebony is wonderful. Flamed or quilted maple is beautiful. Sycamore is sexy. Mahogany can be sexy, too (I think the spanish cedar that Tom uses is a type of mahogany, really). Swamp ash can be insanely wonderful...
Alder and poplar are not so insanely beautiful in themselves, but they *sound* gorgeous.
I realize I love wood. And I also realize I should be insanely careful where I post such a claim. But in here I know I'm safe.

I'm a bit stacked at work, but I wanted to put together a couple of Photoshop on those body choices.
One question though - the cherry is wildly different in colour between the halfs. which would be the more accurate final colouring?
