Club Clement (Part 5: Post your basses here)

A HUGE surprise to me is that passive mode sounds significantly different than active mode. My Fender has the same preamp (Bartolini NTMB 4.7A/P) and there didn't seem to be much difference but I guess with fretless everything really jumps out at you. Passive mode has more mid growl and a more natural top end while the active mode pulls the mids back a bit, boosts the bass a bit and has a more hi-fi sound overall. I like active for the bridge pup and passive for everything else which is totally weird for me because I'm a self-proclaimed active kinda guy.

Definitely digging the sound though after I threw some nickel roundwounds on. flatwounds are just not for me, haha.

Glad to hear your enjoying your "honeymoon".

I have that Bart NTMB 4.7a/p as well in my fretted Clement and I had it previously in a Modulus Q5. I always used the active with the Modulus but I have been playing a lot of passive with the Clement. Getting some great sounds. I Love that configuration on the fretted... may have to go with it on a fretless someday!

Looking forward to hearing yours!

Congratz Kwesi!

Hows that pup placement sounding?

Man, it's sooo perfect! I never play on the neck pickup of fretless basses so the whole two-at-the-bridge deal is just right for me :). Not matter how the pan is set the bass just growlz! Honestly no matter how the knobs are set it just growls, lol. And I can get different vibes by just moving my fingers closer or farther away from the pickups. I took it to the local spot and a bunch of well known local basses (Brad Johnson was one of them) were there and they dug it so I think that says a bit too, haha.

Again, this is all honeymoon-speak but I feel that, months from now, when the new-ness has worn off, I'll be just as thrilled with the bass as I am right now :).

Also, my new lav mic came in today so video shouldn't be too far off just wanna play the bass more so I can really show what it's capable of to the best of my ability.

Tom is going to play it tonight and ship it on Monday. I'm pumped. This thing looks awesome.

So, unfortunately, it turns out that the pickups are microphonic (picking up my shirt rubbing the body, my fingers turning the knobs and anything that touches the pickups covers) so I'm sending them back to Carey and crew so they can fix 'em up. Luckily, a fellow awesome TBer has allowed me to borrow a set of pickups to use until mine ar fixed. A minor setback, but the bass is still fantastic. Despite what the pickup placement may indicate, the bass has a wide variety of tones!

I'll have a clip or two before the pups go out but I really be able to show what it can do when I get them back!

That's wild "microphonic" hu....that sucks. At least team nordy is going to fix them. I've never seen that before.

Yeah, it took me a while to notice only because I was enjoying the bass so much, lol. I can't play over the pickups because my fingers hitting the covers makes this really loud popping sound I can hear it in the records I made clearly through about 4 other instruments.

Clips still incoming, I'll just be playing away from the pups.

Hope the pup issues get fixed quick. Looking forward to hearing clips.

I have a new toy coming a Superflightcase

Travel Bass Amp Combos – 250 Watt Super Flightcase BG-300 | Phil Jones Pure Sound

Since I am building a bass for them I had to get one for myself. + my peavey combo 300 from the early 80's has about had it.

I'm sure Carey and crew will take care of it quickly. It's not so bad since I'll have a replacement set of pickups in a few days, I'd probably be totally distraught if that weren't the case, lol. It'll be cool to try some other pickups in those positions though.

I'm sure you'll love the combo! Those things sound flat out schweet!
