For some reason I was thinking of Leland Sklar....
hmmmmmm those words must come from some notable bass player who's not too worried about bass gear or strings.... I can only think of a couple who haven't been endorsed or showing up in ads all over the place...

Sting?
Sir Paul?

Leland Sklar has been advertising... Sting, too....
Paul McCartney?

It's really the only person I can come up with (as in remember... I have a bad memory *lol*) who fits my guess about being a "non-endorsee". :-)

Actually, it was Sir Paul McCartney who said that. In the same interview he also said "I'm the least technical person you'll probably ever meet".

Scanning through Youtube last night, I found a video that was uploaded from the guy I bought my Clement from (Azoore.)

YouTube - Mr. Bungle - Carousel

It was definitely cool to see and since I had never heard of that band, introduced me to a great band with some killer bass lines.

When I get my chops back up to par, I will upload a video of myself playing but for now, you can see a guy that knows what he is doing play the bass I have now :)

Who plays long shiny strings?
Sir Paul McCartney is correct. Any one who posted, thought about posting or has not yet posted that correct answer gets their very own complete set of Paul McCartney signature strings for their very own. Just be sure to put them on your favorite Tom Clement bass. :D :hiding:

yeah yeah, should be. Wait until she's there, Kwesi, before you start showing off. You live in the US so hopefully it goes faster but mine stayed for nearly 3 weeks at the customs before she arrived at my place. :bawl:

So I got the bass and played on it for a few hours and I'm a very happy guy right now :D. It's pretty much exactly what I wanted. I didn't think it was possible but it looks even beter in person and sounds thick n' growly just like I like my fretless basses! I seriously doubt I'll ever need another fretless 5er but I'll withhold that judgement till the honeymoon is over, lol.

A HUGE surprise to me is that passive mode sounds significantly different than active mode. My Fender has the same preamp (Bartolini NTMB 4.7A/P) and there didn't seem to be much difference but I guess with fretless everything really jumps out at you. Passive mode has more mid growl and a more natural top end while the active mode pulls the mids back a bit, boosts the bass a bit and has a more hi-fi sound overall. I like active for the bridge pup and passive for everything else which is totally weird for me because I'm a self-proclaimed active kinda guy.

Definitely digging the sound though after I threw some nickel roundwounds on. flatwounds are just not for me, haha.
