I REALLY like the look of this BNF! It would be really interesting to play.

Today's roster update welcomes felicidade and his eye catching BNF5 to the club.

I have all black knobs on my VF5 and like them with my finish...

But I also REALLY like the 3 chrome, 3 black knobs with some basses.

With a black pickguard, the black knobs seem to disappear into it, visually, leaving the 3 chrome knobs and the input jack lined up, giving it a very vintage Fender kind of look I feel:

you need to boost or cut a little when playing live, you won't have to walk over to your
amp if your volume is half way up on your bass.

If the theory of there being less signal with the volumes down is true then I guess I like
the sound of my bass with less signal. Also if instruments were made to be played only
with the volumes on full then why do we even have volume knobs?

This is an interesting discussion.

On my BN5, I dial back each volume just enough to hit a sonic sweet spot I like. Actually, these days I have spots on the wood grain I use to mark where I dial the line on the knob back to to help me find it quicker.

If I want a smooth jazz tone, both knobs are on about 80 percent. If I want to nudge it towards Marcus, then I give the neck pickup about 85%, and the bridge pickup about 80%. If I want a growling tone, then I have the neck pickup up about 40%, and the bridge 80%.

These are REALLY rough approximations by the way.

But on my BN6, my favorite tone is both knobs full on.

I'm still experimenting with my VF5-60s, but both full on sounds perfect, as it has a slightly darker character than the BN5.

My fretless AC6 is a totally different animal. It sounds so different from rig to rig, more than any other bass I've owned, that how I dial it up can really vary.

Moreover, this allow my amp (Markbass LMII) to work harder since the gain and master are now set higher.

Best of all, hum-canceling mode doesn't sound bad at all.:smug:

Now, there are new sonic possibilities for me- and amazingly, the idea behind it is so simple!

Now you guys have me really curious. I'll have to do some experimenting this weekend.

BTW, I've been trying to play bass a few times a week, even with this cast on my left thumb. I REALLY miss playing!

This is the best idea: get 3 more black knobs from George.

Unless you want to trade with me: three of my blacks for your three chromes... not sure I want to do that yet, but I probably do.

I don't believe that is a neck through, but ash wings with a maple center taper. That is the construction George has been using for awhile, although not forever with the BNF's

I'l have to play around with my volume knobs too. I always run just under full or full on both. Hmmm...

It drives my wife crazy that I'm trying to play in a cast, but I figure if it is in a cast, how much harm could I be doing to it, you know? :bassist:
