Club Fbass (thread 13)

It would be easier to just buy another bass. :D I think I'm getting ready to thin the heard though, so my F basses will be getting lonely as they are the only ones that are safe. The rest, well, no play, no stay.
I'm more of a bass hoarder. I have difficulty imagining myself selling an instrument. I've only done this once to raise a little money to move across Canada.

After careful consideration, perhaps I have one I could sell under one condition. I have a KSD Burner Deluxe 6 which sounds fine and plays well. I would only sell it if I happen to acquire an official Ken Smith 6.

Thinning the heard can be a difficult thing. I'm down to almost exclusively Fbasses and there is still the odd time I miss one of my old babies. Fortunately I just pick up one of my Fbasses and that feeling goes away pretty quickly.:bassist:

Yes... this is sort of my conundrum in that when I am picking what to play, the F basses typically win over my other 6's and consequently they just sit there. It's hard to let them go just the same. I go back and forth on what to do. And... I still want and AC and I'd like VF5 P/J too.

It might not be all good news for us bassists. Last time I talked with him he said they were going to step up production of guitars, and that would be a priority. Hopefully the bass prototype is something earth shattering, but be cautiously optimistic.

True. I’m curious what it could be that they don’t cover already bass-wise. A production shortscale? We already know the standard BNF is done for and will be replaced by a 22 fret BNF.

I might hafta go back through my emails and try to recall some of the details on this. I do remember being told that part of the reason was the dwindling supply of high quality Gabon Ebony. They want to keep that supply for the AC basses. I totally get that. I can't remember if they were going to a different fingerboard wood or if making them shorter would solve the issues? Anyways, I was just about to reach out to Donovan and see what's up with my BNF, since ours should be close together on the production line...:bassist:

That’s true about not enough Gabon. That’s why shorter boards for new fretless model and longer for AC. Didn’t remember anything about a different wood. Can look in my emails too. We should probably get ours around the same week or even day!

Im guessing the new prototype is a single cut design, but just speculating. Ken smith, sadowsky both major builders recently came out with those in the past 2 years. F bass and MTD have yet to do it!

I've had a few really nice W&T single cuts which I liked. I also dig Fodera and Ken Lawrence single cuts. But both Sadowsky and Ken Smith contours are too epic to be spoiled by the single cut design. Maybe they should redesign their shapes and work out a completely new contour for their single cuts to get more love and sales.
FBass BN model on the other hand has much better contour for the straight converting. So why not? I could buy one.

Great news! My BNF-5 will have a tracking number & sent out tomorrow very likely. Here are the first photos with a bonus fretted twin for fun. This was before the thumbrest was installed.

Sweeeet! Donovan hit me up today. Gotta work out some logistics and financials, but I should be getting my BNF in a few days as well!
