Not sure how much the discount scales on custom orders, but it isn't hard to see the discount for items he has listed as incoming.
I think the VF is an F Bass version of an FSO. You are gonna get a PJ or JJ pickup set with the F Bass Pre, so the sound will be more conventional/traditional. The BN5 provides a slightly more exotic design with the real difference in the pickups. I think that's the magic, more than the shape difference. YMMV

For years Fbass would get requests for a FSO but with Fbass quality and sound. As Fbass has always listened to their customers and offered above average customer service, they answered those calls.
I recently asked George how the VF’s were doing in relation to the BN’s and he noted the BN’s are Fbass’ “bread n butter” bass. Sounded like they move a lot more BN’s.

oh I’ve been watching that. If it was in the US I’d probably have bought it by now.
I have noticed many VF’s with the Aguilar pickups v. the FBass pickups…I wonder what the sound differences are like
Sound quality isn’t as good but you get to hear some talk about the instruments.
The BN seems mellower and maybe a bit rounder to my ears. The VF seems to punch more.
Yeah, BN is a little mellower, but, also fuller and has a little growl the VF lacks. Maybe the maple fb(?).

In all the examples of the VF with Aguilar or F Bass in house pickups, i always prefer the F. But, I like the Alleva Coppolo pickups even better. They are an option that is not listed and are much fuller/punchier/less tin than the Aguilar which are NOT bad pickups.
I demoed and older VF years ago, older body design / alder / rosewood / '60s placement. I wish I knew what pickups were in it because they were the best sounding vintage J pickups I've evern heard, they might have been Fbass' own pickups or Allevas, not sure.
I absolutely love the feel of the VF model neck heel. I may be the minority, but I am very comfortable having that block rather than the slant of the BN series. I couldn’t tell you why, but I just love it. However, I do think the BN is the best modern jazz bass sound out there.
