Club Fbass (thread 13)

Yeah most 5 string Ash BN5s are going to be in that 10 lbs. range, some a little higher or lower, you may find though because of the perfect balance on a strap with zero neck dive it seems less heavy than similar weighted basses.
I did notice that. On a strap it felt pretty good. I had a glimmer of hope. But the more I played, the less comfortable it got. I'm going to keep looking because I liked the way it played. Who knows? Maybe custom order is the only way to guarantee I get what I really want.

@Dave Hill im sorry you were scammed. Hopefully you sent payment through PayPal not F&F and can recoup your funds…albeit after spending time and energy with emails and phone calls to paypal

To the group as a whole…if ordering a BN series without string through body option…Hipshot A or B bridge? In theory I like the added flexibility of the A, but the simplicity of the B is attractive. Anyone try a bunch of both and have an opinion? I’m leaning B…

You ain’t kiddin.

if it makes you feel any better I bought a P bass once, returned it and trusted that the shop would refund my CC purchase. It wasn’t until some months later I actually checked…they never reversed the charge and CC company said it was too far out to undo it. So I basically paid for a bass I never got. Man, haven’t thought about that in years. It sucks for sure but life moves on. Again though, I hope you fare better than I did!

We all know that the F Bass pre is transparent and boost only. So, in effect, active on and all settings at 0 sounds the same as passive. In the past, I had watched a video where Alain mentioned that he preferred the passive tone and I suspect has pedals from there. I have been really exploring passive for the past few months; its nice. I started down the pedal path again, I had been using a Helix Floor that is getting long in the tooth and really is overkill for me at this time.

The reason I ask is related to active/passive basses in respect to the need, or lack thereof, for buffers in your chain. Does anyone use the active on, but EQ at 0 to engage the electronics and thereby alleviate the need for a buffer?

ps. I am aware that many pedals also have buffers, I am just curious if anyone does this with the bass.

I have the type B and love it, I have no need to change the string spacing,19mm is my sweet spot, the saddles never move and the quick string change is nice but the type A has it’s fans also.

Far as I know buffers only make a difference downstream, so a passive bass will always be impacted by cable length/quality/etc. Which may or may not be a problem or concern. Apparently Santana intentionally runs a long cable to roll off highs.

I always played my BN6 active and flat by default with the preamp where I liked it, and adjusted on a per-song basis only when needed.

I've seen some light F Basses, but they were NOT northern ash bodies... mine is 9.25 w/northern ash, but I ordered it specifically below 9.5lbs (Marcel said that was a good weight, still had a good sound, and I agree :bassist:)...swamp ash tends to be lighter (especially chambered like a Sadowsky NYC) the MTD 535 I just got is swamp ash, Mike couldn't guarantee under 9.5 w/northern...

IMHO the a style is the perfect bass bridge. I don't care for the B as it's a tight fit getting the B and E strings in there, even with the F Bass exposed core strings... and it is NOT an easy swap, fyi... B isn't terrible (like the abm locking bridges :rollno:), but I got an a style on my MTD that I ordered more recently

A long-time member with great feedback etc had his account hacked and the scammer put a bass up for sale. My dumb-ass fell for it.
Be careful. I thought TB was pretty safe…
So sorry to hear this! It's scary. When I bought my BN5 from a member here last year, I asked him to send me pictures where I had him add specific things in the photo. So at least I knew he had the bass and pictures were real.

Is the post that you purchased still up or was it deleted? Curious, scammers often reuse the same pictures for future scams. I was wondering if it was one I was looking at too.

Everything disappeared as soon as the scam was over. I’ve bought dozens of things through TB over the years and never had a problem. I thought it was a safe place.

I keep an eye out for BN4s and hadn’t seen this one before.
