You mention ebony fingerboard. I'm a wee bit confused. At first I was told by a customer that it was ebony, then was told by the builder that I was getting rosewood. Do you use different woods on different models? Based on the pitting of the wood, and what I was told, I'm assuming I have rosewood on my J-Classic V. Is that correct?

Correct. Honestly, the fretboard history of the J-Classic V is tad confusing and had to confirm things with the boss myself this morning!

The original J-Classic V prototypes (all of 2011, probably a half dozen were made and are "floating around") were ebony. When the production models came out in early 2012 they were Indian rosewood, used continuously on through this year's NAMM display model and several early 2014 Spring models, necks/boards of which were built and finished last summer (including yours).

Just as Makassar ebony replaced Indian rosewood on P-Classic IV and J-Classic IV models a few years back, Mr. Park does indeed prefer ebony in general but is very picky with larger pieces that can end up with 45mm or 47mm nut widths and subsequently wider boards up the neck. Along the same lines, stock of ebony he felt comfortable selecting earlier this year deemed suitable for 2014 J-Classic Vs, and since the supplier seems to have excellent quality ebony that we should be able to continually use, Mr. Park intends to use only Makassar ebony instead of Indian Rosewood on all future models.

Vik's Blue Sparkle B524 is one of the original prototypes that more recently received upgraded circuity to match the final version of the B524 (1960s Les Paul wiring), the materials and all pretty much all being the final version, so it's safe to say his is now same in specs to Chris' and Rufus' B524s.

Approx. 7.0k ohm dual coil pickups, Makassar ebony fretboard on 1-piece quartersawn maple neck (45mm nut), "Young Joon's own recipe" high density Moollon tuners and steel bridge plate, and (being one of the bigger things to differentiate with the J-Classic V other than the p'ups), a thicker 2-way trussrod. 2-piece alder bodies in opaque finishes are standard, and maple caps are optional. Starts at $2490 (street price).
