I see them on sale from Molloon on ebay. Is there a difference in price compared to buying from the website? Im intrigued by these basses. Ebony fingerboard is awesome.

Go to Mooloon.com and contact them via email. They basically build it to your specific request. I have been in touch about the same thing.
Ok will do. Kind of surprised this little club is so inactive. These basses sound incredible and tons of hired guns are switching to them. They have racked up some name players on the guitar side already.
Wonder if the guys are out at a trade show. I have not been able to get a response from them yet.

Nice. good to know they are responsive normally. It is super key when selling globally due to logistics. I don't need to know any pricing, but how does it work in terms of estimated time from build to shipping, ~6 weeks turnaround? Also do you put a % down to get the build started and then pay up when it is done?
I'm not certain what the usual turnaround time is to be honest. When I contacted them in November, they immediately let me know they would be busy preparing for and attending NAMM in the following months and that a late February completion was estimated. There was no deposit required as they prefer to start the payment process closer to completion. FWIW, I cant overemphasize how helpful they were in the ordering process. Fantastic people to work with...
That's awesome. Well if they have what I want in stock, ill be all set to get one in a few weeks. The 5 string classic J with ebony fingerboard is all I need. Just curious about the paint jobs and if they'll do a matching headstock for me.
I recently spoke to them and they told me that if I placed my order it would take about 5-6 weeks. I was interested in the Fiesta or Candy Apple red. The Candy Apple red requires a special treatment and was about $90 more. You can see all the colors they have on their website and go to the P Bass and J Bass pictures to see some of the different colors. They are very helpful, cool to work with and because of the time difference and the fact that the owner only does a few at a time it takes longer to reach him and to get things done. Patience can be difficult when getting a new toy!
I believe they will do matching head stocks, although I didn't order one. As far as paint jobs, they were extremely helpful sending me sample pics of guitars they had built in colors that I was interested in. This was important for me as everyone's shoreline gold/sherwood green/etc is not exactly the same.
Ok great! Yeah I am real curious how some of their colors look. The sparkle orange with Tort could be incredible if it looks like how I imagine it in my head.
I saw that one and then I saw a video with a sparkle red w/ matching headstock, and that looks rather fantastic as well.
I m curious if any of you that own a Moollon have also had experience with a Fender American Standard to compare the two?
Me too. I'd love to pull more people out of the woodwork and get some feedback on these basses. Particularly interested in the necks. Are they straight? Are there issues? I know a tech in another thread had some beef with the necks and said the setups were not great on some. That was 2 years ago though and just one person's experience.
Thing about Fender that sucks is the ski jump neck. It can happen a little too commonly for my taste and that is why I don't play Fenders anymore. I can't have that happen in a boutique bass.

FWIW, the Moollon P-classic I previously owned had an amazing neck with no issues. I loved the feel of the neck profile and the ebony board gave it great clarity. I only sold it because it was A width nut, and I prefer a B width.
Also, the stock pickup in that bass was incredible! One of the best I've heard and I've played many. In fact, the only pickup I've liked more is the one in my '66.
Regarding how they compare to Fenders, I've owned a few American standards and these basses were on a whole different level... far superior IMO. On par with Fender custom shop builds.

So essentially this is the quality of the Bacchus DX line. That is what I am expecting. The tone of the Moollon basses is perfection for me as a session player. I saw demos of a guy playing them at NAMM and just the way he picked up the bass and started doing his thing on it so quickly really showed me that it had to be a very playable bass. Just something that you can't put down. That is what I am looking for in addition the warm and rich Jazz tone that is so hard to find now. Most newer Jazz bass builds have accented highs and get pretty chirpy, but they don't have that rich complexity in the mids that I hear in the Moollon.
I also like how even his modern bass he builds is apparently passive too. I like active basses a lot, but there is something about a very high quality passive bass that is just unbeatable.
Heard back from Moollon today. Got a real detailed email and I think they may have a bass that I want to buy off the rack. I'd imagine I can get it by late March.
