Question for you guys. Am I the only one that finds the look of the 5 string P pick-ups a little off with that one pick up that only has the two poles and the blank spot off to the left side there? I always thought that it would look better with a three pole pick up and one smaller one that just has the two poles centered in it, like the four strings.

Maybe the pickup looks a little wierd at short range. But if you look at the basses from a few feet away, the symmetric appearance looks better (IMO).

Nope, I'm with you. I really prefer the look of the asymmetric one on the Fender 5ver.

While we're at it, I also think that the Sadowsky 5 strings need tuners with posts that are the same size as on the 4 bangers. the thin little tuner posts on the 5-string Sadowskys make the headstock look oversized, and there are plenty of light cloverleaf tuners with proper-sized posts out there these days.

All that being said, the bass in that pic you posted makes me weak in the knees.

I believe the Sadowsky (hipshot) ultralite tuners on the 5ers (3/8" solid post) are heavier than the hipshot ultralite 1/2" post (4 string size post), which is a hollow post.
I replaced the stock Fender tuners on my '02 P-Bass w/ the cloverleaf 1/2" post ultralites & it took very close to 1/2 lb off the headstock.

PS: This of course is something that Roger is surely aware of and must have his reason for using the tuners he does.

Another +1. I can't stand the look of asymmetric split-coils. That lopsidedness is noticed at a distance! The "missing" polepieces on the symmetric coils don't bother me at all.

I don't consider post size a huge deal, but I agree with you. For example, the wider posts look perfect on the Fender RB5 headstock.

+1 to most of the above... tuning post size... jeez, who cares:D And the 'empty spot' on the P pickup is IMO the less of the two evils, and as others have said, from a distance, it looks like a P pickup.

Now, if we want to discuss what I think about a PJ with a reverse P pickup and a hum cancelling J pickup installed in a J bass body with a fancy top and a preamp, I could write a book on the pain that shoves directly into my 'aesthetic heart':D :hiding:
