Got my first Sadowsky this week, a Metro Will Lee 4-string in CAR. I need to say at this point that I've been playing one of Roger's primary competitors exclusively for a long while now, quite happily, but bought the metro because I felt like having something new. The competitor will remain nameless because he's a great guy and he makes great basses, but that said, the metro blew me away along with the competitor's basses. I don't know what it is, but the tone is just so much better and the bass is so much more responsive. Clarity, balance, resonance and punch. Not to mention how fast the narrower neck plays. Wow!

I'm on the hunt for a new bag and/or case for my PJ4 and I have several questions and requests:

How are the pockets on the newer Portabags organized? I can't find any photos around? Can you keep a typical A4 size book in the front pouch?

Since I'm at it, I might also order one of the newer hardshell cases but I have never seen a P inside one and the online shop doesn't even show them for sale.

Can you guys post/repost photos of your new Portabags and hardshell cases?

There was someone, I think Fuzzbass, who posted some pix of the HC recently in the club thread. It's either this one or the last. Maybe 21 but I thought it was recent.

The HC is basically a tolexe covered wooden monster like most other traditional HC cases.

The pockets on my Portabag, and I don't know if I have the old or new, are fine but not as easy to use as the big pocket on the "standard" ultralights.

Why not just snag the UL? They don't wear the greatest, but they are otherwise great. Big pocket, light. The only reason I like the Portabag better is that I can tote it "backpack" style. Otherwise I think the ULs are easier to use.

I don't have any pictures of my portabag (I should probably take some), but it is a new one. The front pocket is plenty big enough for a standard A4 sized book, cable, strap, effects pedal, and small snap compartment organizer thingy. That's what I've got in mine, and there is some room left over.

The upper pocket is also useful for smaller items. I've got another effects pedal in mine right now, but it'll fit more than that. I've never tested to see what I can cram in it though.

It's a great bag. Very well balanced. Unlike my OLD ul case with a handle dead center. I hate carrying that thing. The bass isn't balanced, so the bottom corner is only a few inches off the ground when walking. It's hits the ground constantly. It is very light though.

Back to the portabag...Handles in all the right places, comfortable backpack straps, doorway hanger, and plenty of padding for my beloved bass. I'm very happy with it.

How's the pocket under the neck rest on that case? Big eoungh for a cable, tuner and strap?

As I recall, the hardcase pocket plenty of room for those items, Fran.

FWIW I've owned the hardcase, ultralight, and portabag. The security of the hardcase was nice, but it was a pretty heavy beast and had the least room for extra stuff. My ultralight has held up pretty well over six-plus years, but I'm thinking I prefer the portabags I've been using since October: they're softshell but well padded, and more rugged than the ultralight (fabric, straps, zippers, etc).

Note that this applies to my current usage: weekend warrior, load/carry my own gear by car. For air travel I'm not sure what I'd use.

I hate the ribbons on the ultralights, they always get cought on the zipper; a real pain... The Portabag is a sure choice; I really like the front handle on the newer ones. The HS case is soooo classy that I'd love toohave one...I'm waiting on the Spanish dealer to give me a price for both (he's having an order coming in July). if he gives me a good price I might be ordering both.

This is the new portabag, which is also the same thing as the Access Stage 5, though it doesn't yet appear on their web site. Not sure if it'll stay as an OEM thing or not.

Hey Fran, Not sure this is of any use to you but IT WORKS!
I like the chain & hook also for hanging on a rod. (ya never know). Got all the room you'll need amigo. You can fold your strap & wrap it in your cloth & put next to the neck if space is an issue.

I sure like it and truth be told, hardshell cases are painful to move around.

I'm going to order a Portabag and I'll wait till Roger sells a Hardsell case in tweed (are you listening, Roger? ).

Oh, I've been feeling a bit guilty lately. My Sadowsky SWR has been sitting home allot.

I admit I have a soft spot for vintage Fenders....and even more for Vintage Fenders with Block inlays!

Well picked up this '72 LPB jazz back in Feb....and just love this bass! It plays like butter. Used it quite a bit since I got her. Well just pickup this '72 Sunburst recently. Dripping with mojo and plays like a dream.

So what does this have to do with Sadowsky you ask?

Now these basses sound great by themselves. BUT they sound even BETTER with my Sadowsky Preamp/DI box! I picked one up shortly after I got the LPB jazz and have used it ever since with both basses.

I've gotten so many compliments on their tone, which I think allot has to do with that preamp!

I know there are quite a few people here that use that preamp box with their passive Fenders.....well if you are thinking about getting one I highly recommended it!

(and no, I'm not selling the SWR!)
