I have my very first Sadowsky on the way! I picked it up from my buddy bamabass right here in the classifieds.
I have sold off my 35" basses for 34's and have always wanted a Sadowsky. It seems as if the stars aligned perfectly for me to end up with this one. I should have it aroud this time next week! Then I'll have to figure out whether I do nickels or flats....
Since I've not played one, how would those of you with a PJ5/VTC descibe the tone (does it lean vintage, modern, or unique?).
Based on comparisons of tort pickguard colorations, I do believe it is this one. Proper pics to follow once I get it. Can. Not. Wait.
Congrats and welcome to the club. You do realize that this is typically just the beginning. One Sadowsky usually leads to another...and so on.
I just can't hang with a 35" scale bass.I have a PJ5, alder/BRW but mine has the reverse P which seems to only slightly change the tone profile a bit.
I would say that it leans slightly more toward the vintage tone compared to a JJ5 with single coils. But with the clarity of a Sadowsky there is a difference.
I bought a set of Sadowsky Blue nickels to try first and also bought a set of Sadowsky flats which I haven't tried yet.

It's a whole other bass with it! Boost one area (sweepable mids) and the solo P is just crazy, really aggressive with the VTC dimed, and thumpy as hell with it turned down...cut another area with the blend 50/50 and some high boost, it gets really close to a JJ slap sound. It adds extra bite to the J pickup burp sound when soloed, or can carve out some mids for a really deep dub bass sound with the VTC at 0, 50/50 blend. Can even approximate a very modern soapbar-like grind with new strings and some high mid boosting.
So yea, it's working out I guess...
On a side note, I just started using TI Jazz Rounds on this bass (2 weeks so far), these are my new favorite strings! Effortless to play with great tone to boot. Not as bright as other nickels i've tried but bright enough, with very warm, sweet mids. If you're not opposed to lower tension strings I highly recommend them.

It's such a interesting top, it's so hard for my camera to get the color just right...pic #2 is probably the closest to the true color.

Where did you get that sweepable mid control ?? Is it an East mid controller worked in with a Sadowsky Pre ???

Been toying with the idea of sanding the finish from the neck (though I'm more than a lil nervous about doing it myself)...is it really that substantial of a difference in feel? Looking to get the most "slippery" neck possible.
