I like that head through the 12" cabs. If you wanna have some fun, slide a nice big piece of sponge foam under the strings @ the bridge & play some thunk w/that rig. Even with the rounds it'd be a hoot.

Im glad you said that , I have a special piece of foam made just for the under the strings thing , my buddy Lee Barker at Barker basses makes them , I forgot I had that , I will try it , just had a day to myself yesterday and decided to do those , sounds best thru headphones , thanks again BlairThanks for taking the time to do this Craig. I hear you , I love the Demeter QSC fifty pound rack I still have but it stays parked in the practice room , the the GB gear only goes out to gigs , less wear and tear , but that little amp just has punch like ive never played thru , I bet it sounds great thru the AE410 , thanks

Yeah that's what I do a lot, put a cut piece of a mouse pad (for computers) under the strings, blue nickels, and I don't miss my flatwounds much. Sounds punchy and old school and somehow the rounds work better on this bass even though in the past I've always leaned towards flatwounds.
That mouse pad stuff I find to be a bit too dense. I found some medium density seat cushion foam (black stuff), that I've cut a few sizes & thicknesses to give some variety in muting. It requires some trial & error when recording I find - (I normally avoid muting but it's OK in rare situations I guess & fun to experiment with). I've being meaning for ages to do an overdub of Billie Holiday's "Autumn In New York" with a mute. (also "Fine And Mellow" - where I can improv a bit). Ray Brown & Milt Hinton respectively on those takes. I think a well muted P pup soloed would be a good fit. Ain't this bass playin' a slice!!!

Edit: Here's the take I have on CD. Pretty special musicians involved right here inc. Ray Brown on bass, pianist Oscar Peterson & guitarist Barney Kessel.
Something else that works very well as a mute is that black foam tubing used for water pipe insulating (5/8"hole). It has a slit running the length of the tubing & if you cut the tube in half lengthwise you have a 1/2 round section you can cut to length. I have used it round side up & down. It looks good & you can try another section cut down on one edge to have less thickness/pressure under strings & tweak the angle under the strings as well for sound balance.

Your bass sound on this album is really great. Did you use an amp at all in the recording, or is the sound all direct-in? What kind of strings do you use? Did you use the on board preamp at all? Do you have any favorite tracks? Any plans to tour in the US?

The sound is direct from bass. Strings are Elixir Nanoweb superlight. Yes I did use onboard preamp sometimes. A little bit bass ond treble boost. On "hebanowy" I cut lot of bass fq and used only neck pickup- I think it sounds a little bit like Anthony Jackson's bass ;-) On live performings-video soon - I use also some efffects.
