How long did you work with those strings? I found that it took about 25-30 hours of play to get rid of that grabby thing...and I'm totally in love with the way they now sound and play on my P/J5, on which they seem to be aging slowly and gracefully.

That said, you've made me curious about going to steel, which I generally don't use (I've generally preferred nickel for my fingerstyle thing).

Another way of getting rid of thatgrabby thing is to wipe the strings with some alcohol before installing them on the bass. One of the things I love about the Sadowsky flats is how I can slide on them almost as if it were a fretless bass.
