Club Sadowsky!!!

+1,000,000!!!! I am heading into the studio tonight and can't wait to lay this thing down on some tracks. I also have a UV70. Such a great bass! Fits me perfectly.

Dude, Sadowsky's are badass and all, but laying it down on some tracks....if you do, there are some tracks by my house that dont get much train traffic, so lay it down there.
I would suggest using to RECORD some tracks. I've heard they do pretty good sometimes in the studio.:D

I am considering some future revisions to the Will Lee preamp and would like to solicit your opinions.

I am thinking of moving the frequency switch from the circuit board to a 3 way mini toggle. Narrow Q will be eliminated.
Since it is just as easy to make this a 3 ways switch as a two way switch, I would like your suggestions on the 3rd frequency.

We will have 500 and 800.
I am thinking of adding either 300 or 1200.

Opinions and reasons are welcome.

Thanks.

Roger

Hey Roger - I have some idea's/experience/feedback in this area, but I'm wondering if these will these be boost only mids? Or are you considering boost/cut?

I think there's an error on the prices for the new Vintage 24-fret 4-string Metros.

I see the designation RV5-WL and MV5-WL in the prices. Looks like the text from the image in the Will Lee models in the center was copied to the 24-fret models on the right.

I would like to see something lower like maybe 200. I find I usually boost this frequency on my amp. Especially for fingerstyle playing.

Just my 2 cents :D

If it's boost-only, like it is now, I see it like this:

300 would add presence
1200 would accentuate the attack

Personally and in my experience, I'd choose 1200, 'cause in the 300-800 range, there's always so much going on already. I think it's one of the most filled-up octaves nowadays. Since you already cover part of that range with the 500 and 800 boost, I'd choose 1200. While I think a 1200 boost wouldn't sound nice when playing solo at home, I think it's can be very useful in for example dense mixes to add a touch of (definition in the) attack.

Boost only.

Gotcha.

All just IMO/IME here:

I would keep it to two frequencies only. 3 bands seems to be a bit overboard IMO.

Sticking with 2 bands - I find the best boost only freq on the J bass to be 400hz/800hz.

If you are keen on keeping the 500hz, then I would add 300hz & 800hz.

Again - just personal opinion here, but I've never found use for a 500hz boost on bass... its an odd center freq IMO and is a bit "honky" & "strong" voiced freq IMO. For 2 band, I like around 350/400hz & 800hz best. But if you 100% want to keep the 500hz - I would add 300hz & 800hz. 200hz is too low IMO.

All IMO/IME of course.

800 (& 500) are already on there :).

Given the boost-only nature, I would vote 300, or actually, even lower... maybe 250 or even 200.

I pretty much never boost the high mids like 1K and above. 800 is probably about as high as I'd ever boost personally, and honestly, I'd probably rarely even do that, but I love to boost low mids (200-300) if favoring or soloing the bridge and I want the burp to have more cohones, but still remain fairly tight sounding.

Just one question...

Currently, the 2-way switch goes from boost to "flat", with Q and Freq selected on the back.

If you move Freq to the 3-way, and all three positions represent a Freq, how do you get to "flat"? Does each Freq have a boost level on the back so you have to simply adjust one to be non-boosted and sacrifice that Freq?

So sorry Lizzy! Feel free to send it back and I will double check the replacement. We have them specially made to be exact replacements on the Metros. If you are going to have to drill new holes, you will be better off plugging the holes with small dowels rather than wood filler. I can send you those as well.

Roger

Yep, looks like it's just the wrong one, I took the Hipshot off my other Metro to try it and that one does indeed fit perfectly, so I'll send this one back to exchange.

How would you bypass it but still have the original pre working?
I like the fact that you have the "classic" Sadowsky sound and then throw a switch and its....well....the Sadowsky sound on steroids!!:D
