What woods are you referring to? Maple, ash, alder, spruce, cedar are all US or Canadian woods. But there are very few exotic US hardwoods other than walnut and cherry.

I guess what I meant was why can't they use "exclusively" American grown wood. Not importing rosewood, ebony, korina or mahogany for example and using something grown here instead. Do walnut or cherry not make good instrument wood? I've heard of people making guitars out of oak,elm,birch and sycamore but I would think the oak would be heavy.

So, tonight I start on 27 hours of giggage for St-Pat's weekend (thankfully spread over three days). While I was practicing today, my cuteling decided to show me how it's done.

You can make guitars out of packing crates if you want to! But there are really no domestic alternatives to rosewood, ebony or mahogany.

I just wondered since I really have never heard anyone say for sure why they use the woods they do, other than it just being a traditional thing, and since you can stain and dye woods as well.

I'm sure you're right, that's a wide, fit my hand like a glove 1,75" nut.

Thanks. I'm kind of crazy about her, myself. She tries to play the guitars and basses using a toddler-grade version of her mother's fingerpicking style. It's not exactly musical yet, but there just might be a future interest in music developing there...

Kids are great. My daughter thats turning 3 in May amazes me. Couple cover songs I'm learning to play and practice will sing while I'm playing. Albeit she's repeats the same line or two over and over again. Funny too since I can now see her alternating finger style beginning to develop which is kind of impressive.

Sorry no Sadowsky yet for her since she can't quite hold it without me being paranoid she'll drop it, but I got her own beater bass.
