Interested by the Nordstrand NJ4, but what model? 60 or 70?
I heard that 70 winding a scooped tone and a bit on the harsh side... Smooths higs is better.

PLEASE HELP ME

I've got a very nice Fender Geddy Lee with a Sadowsky preamp (with VTC).
I recently swapped the pickups to a DiMarzio Area J set, that sounds great, but i think i will come back to true single coils (bridge stock pickup is dead).
I don't know what pickups will fit my needs...
I already have a 62 Jazz Bass with Wizard pickups that sounds growly, vintage with great low mids but for the Geddy i want something a bit different.
Something a bit more modern, but not scooped, like a Marcus Miller sound, full with the highs not "clanky" and "harsh", and growly of course.

My choice for now is
Fender 75 RI pickups
Nordstrand NJ4, maybe the 70s style but i'm afraid about the "scooped" tone
Stock Fender 2008 USA Standard pickups?

Can you help me gentlemans?

If you want to more or less stay period correct with that bass, go 75 RI, but of course that will sound somewhat "Marcusy". The Nordstrands are fine pickups, and probably more growly and mid forward by comparison.

However, you've got mixed goals.

If you don't have "clanky" highs, then you have sizzly highs, which basically means "scooped", because the difference is the high mid/low treble being more subdued if it's not "clanky".

Also keep in mind that that "clank", while seemingly harsh when playing solo, provides a lot of great sounding cut on a gig.

Just some food for thought.

^ This. I have them in my Geddy and they sound amazing. Mine are the 60's wind and the bass lacks nothing.

In fact, my english is a little bad 'cause i want a Marcus Miller sound, but not a scooped tone. The 75 RI pickups will suit my needs i think, and they are less expensive than NJ4s.
I have read here that this pickups are very agressive and mid forward, with less highs than normal. It can match well with the Sadowsky preamp.

Thanks. I've had ash/ebony before and loved it, and in fact currently have it in another brand, so it's not my first rodeo with this wood combo. I know it's gonna' be great.

The SC PUPS that I grabbed from a Sadowsky brother for my MV5 has 3 Wires. White, Black and the bare wire that drains the noise from the sheild. I know where the black and white wires go but wanted to confirm where the bare wire goes with you guys. I assume it goes on the gnd ring with the black wire. So tell me is this where it goes?
