If you have a 5 string with HC pups, try the SCs. Those pups are the ones to get. If you have a 4 string and have HC and lacking mids, something ain't right.

Yup, the HC 5 string pups are a little scooped. The SCs will get those mids your missing back. They are an all around great pup!

Different story with the 4 stringers. I prefer the HC pups in my NYC Standard 4s.

If you have a J-style bass (and you probably do), what kind of pickups are in there: humcancelling or single-coil? Many say that the single-coils have a bit more mid punch than the HCs, and that would make sense.

My first thought is always EQ. Don't boost too much bass and treble on the Sadowsky onboard... that's obvious, I guess. Second, in those situations where you feel mids are lacking, you can goose the mid control on your amp.

Of course the best choice for great mids would be to get a Sadowsky P-bass. :ninja::p

They are hc pups. I always run the preamp with very little boost most times none. I wish the preamp had a mid control. Hopefully the sc pups will help cause it's a great bass otherwise - records really well.

Singles will help for sure, next thing to look at is strings. But no matter what its not going to be as midrangey as an american standard J for example. That is just part of the sadowsky sound, its more clear and open than a J bass.
