Club Sadowsky!!!

Awesome. Vintage shoreline gold and roasted maple is exactly what I want, since seeing someone posting a Tokyo limited edition with those specs a month or so ago. Japan is sold out of those, but good to know a NYC can be ordered that way.

Why do some of those necks look white?

Able to visit the shop 2 weeks ago and luckily the bodies / neck of y 2 orders just send back to the shop. So I can take some pic and see it in person before sanding / spraying! Both bodies is super feather light weight! Just hit 2.6lbs and 2.9lbs!!! Also, the BE Roasted Maple board and neck just look STUNNING!! CAN'T WAIT!!

haha, I just photoshopp'ed the pic ... b/W the rest of the neck thats not for my order.. The hilighted Roasted BE Maple neck (24frets) and Amazon RW board (P5) are mine. :)

TI flats ***BY FAR*** over the Sadowsky flats. I commented on another thread about why, but essentially, the TIs have much more tone and blend so well in the mix. The Sadowsky flats, for me, dont poke out enough, for want of a better description. Others have better results. For me, its either TI flats, or a distant second, Labella flats. I've spent a LOAD of money coming to this conclusion over a few decades. No string GAS for me now...and no bass GAS either, Sadowsky PJ all the way.

I've been trying various flats and tapes on my alder/Braz P5. It's currently strung with LaBella nylon tapes (which I like), but in short, I still like the TI Jazz Flats best.

Possible downside #1: the TI's are the lowest tension strings I've tried (34" scale).

Possible downside #2: as originally mentioned by someone else in this thread, the ball ends might not be properly held by the Sadowsky bridge. I believe the problem is that the TI ball ends are smaller than normal -- a recent eyeball check seemed to confirm this. Note that I've owned this set of TI flats for many years, perhaps TI has corrected the issue.

Edit: the ball end problem happened only on the B string. I field-repaired it by looping a paper clip through the ball end a couple of times, then wrapping the excess wire in electrical tape to prevent finish scratching. Ugly but effective. :p

I just emailed Kevin at the shop and received an automated email informing me that he no longer works there. I've almost always spoken with Kevin whenever I've dealt with Sadowsky over the past seven years and this comes as a bit of a shock. I hope everything is okay.

That would explain why it was Lisa who sent me photos of my bass body recently. I spoke with her on the phone once and she was really nice and helpful.

I have no experience with Sadowsky flats, but I have D'Adarrio Chromes on two of my NYC's. Nice even tension string with consistent string to string volume. I don't really dig TI's on 5's, but they are just fine on 4's.

In the last few weeks I have been really enjoying my Sadowsky flats on my NYC P. In the past ten years any bass I had, Chromes would go on them. For some reason they weren't cutting it for me when I got this new bass, a bit to much thud on the E string above the seventh fret and the G on the A string was projecting. Don't know if it is from the reduced tension on the Sadowsky flats or exactly what it is but they really have a nice growl and very even response. Really enjoying the lower tension. I have another set on order for my Fender P, should be here this week...can't wait to hear the difference.

Yeah I was the other one who had a ball end slip out of Sadowsky bridge. Twice I recall. It was the E on a 4 string set. If it happens again I'll fix it, but so far its been fine.

I too have been on a flat kick lately. My favs remain Sadowskys, followed by the DR Legends and EB flats, and LaBellas. My least favs are TIs(comfy but too floppy and pricey), Chromes (too taught), and Rotos (sound dead to me). I also have TIs on my double bass (spirocores).

Talk about flats, Eric Cocco from LaBella just sent me some of their latest release - low tension Flats for test driving and I totally love it! Already cut some tracks with the flats wiht my NYC Ash / Rosewood .. Sounded Great!

Lisa Is Superb and helpful no matter the time I was in the shop and any emails I sent to her. Top notch customer service and not to mention, her builds as well. Still enjoy my first Sadowsky NYC Ash/Rosewood bass everytime I pick it up and play.
