Pink paisley isn't really my thing either but there's something kind of cool about that finish (and the shop did a great job with it).
Not a bass you'd see in my hands (and I don't dig maple boards)…but it is gorgeous, within its realm! It makes me smile…therefore, it is good!Which is just another way of saying that bass screams "sex".
Looking into ordering my first five string Sadowsky and my first five ever actually. Anyone prefer the narrower nut width option? Thinking about going with that since I've always been a four string player.
As a regular 4 player that dabbles with 5 strings, I am going to tell you that, for me, the 35 inch scale is a bigger adjustment than the wider neck. Just keep that in mind. You get over both eventually, with time. Gotta give it time.
Well, with the Sadowskys you don't have to worry about 35". My Std 5 has the narrower nut width and I like it well enough. I think I like the feel of the neck a little more with the standard nut though, which is part of the reason my new Std 5 has the regular nut. Unfortunately I haven't received that new bass yet (should be ready any day now) otherwise I'd give you a proper comparison between the two.

I guess now I know why you've got that pretty MTD for sale in the classifieds...

With the wider nut, string to string spacing is the same as a j-bass and may feel more familiar to a 4 string guy. Or a narrower overall neck may feel better. Very personal. Im fine with either but my preference is 1 3/4.
The 5 string nut widths offered are 1-7/8" (standard), and the narrower 1-3/4". String spacing at the bridge for both nut widths will be the same: 19mm (3/4"), same as Fender-style four strings.
I played four string for 25 years before switching to five. I learned that both of my hands prefer string spacing (not fingerboard width) to be the same on fivers as on fours. So, I happen to prefer the 1-7/8" nut. But if you think you'd prefer 1-3/4", then go for it.
When I first switched, I bought a very nice Godin with a narrow nut. Turns out the narrower string spacing was more of an issue for me than the overall width. So I sold a very nice Godin...
Yeah I hadn't considered string spacing. So the narrower nut can make the strings feel too close together?

I haven't ever had an NYC Sadowsky, so I think all of the Sadowskys I've had have been 1 7/8's.

Possibly. Or the wider nut will make them feel too far apart. Unfortunately nobody knows your preference but you.
That said, I don't believe the difference is huge. I'm sure I could gig a narrower nut with no real difficulty, I'm simply more comfortable on the wider one.
Remember when I came over to your place to try out your bass? It was to determine which nut width I would prefer. I sold my Std 4 to Sonicyoga (that bass is now in the classifieds) to help fund the new 5 and, yes, this new one is a good part of the reason for that MTD also being in the classifieds.
