Club Sadowsky!!!

Here are a couple clips of my Metro WL5 in service. This was a one-shot, special treat side project of my regular gig with the guitar player; glad he asked me to do this show with him. (Can't embed the clips because they're on the TV station's site, not on TB's list of approved video sources.) The audio engineer took the DI from my Aggie TH500, pre EQ.

After reading through this entire thread and thinking about buying a sadowsky for a couple of years, I was finally able to snag Timothy's Black super sparkle NYC 24/5 JJ. This is the only club I've had an interest in joining, so here goes!

I LOVE this bass. Previously, I had an American deluxe fender J with the Sadowsky preamp and it killed. I've also been using the pedal pre for a couple of years.

When I saw this one pop up in the tb classifieds, I jumped on it. It arrived in like 3 days. I picked it up from the PO on my way out of town for a casino gig. I got to mess with it in the hotel room for about 15 minutes unplugged. The first time I plugged it in was for soundcheck. We didn't have our normal engineer, and it was a nightmare sound situation with an obviously very green engineer. I should have been stressed, but the sadowsky just killed. Set it, forget it and lay it down. I'm a few dozen gigs in and I'm pretty sure it's the best bass guitar ever built. I'm gonna grab a uv70 at some point just because I'm a sucker for blocks and binding and I love 70's J basses!

I do notice that there is a significant difference in sound between the onboard preamp and the pedal pre with the onboard bypassed. I'm sure there are many reasons for this, but I was just curious if anyone had any ideas. The onboard sounds brighter, even when set flat. And there is a different texture to the high end. The great thing is that they both sound awesome, just different.

Just me spitballing with this (and I don't fancy myself an audio engineer, by any means), but I'm thinking it has to do with the respective output/input impedances, device to device, going down the signal chain. With the onboard pre enabled, the output of the pups is buffered from anything later in the signal chain. Bypassed, not the case--and high freqs are likely to get rolled off.

In with ya, Chef. Most of the time. Fortunately, I only had to put a small portion on CC. I had been saving for that moment for almost half a year and wasn't gonna let a few hundred stop me!

That makes a ton of sense and I've considered that, too. I'm just surprised it makes this big of a difference. Thanks!

Finally made the trip to the Big City to buy my bass... At this time, was not interested in
a custom build, but instead wanted to visit the shop and try EVERYTHING they had.
Glad I did, tried every 4 string they had, and a couple of fives. Was able to hear and feel
the subtle differences in every instrument, and although it came down to a WL Metro and
this NYC (6763, still on the website), I went with the NYC... wow.

I absolutely recommend a visit to the shop like this, there is no substitute to being able
to try these fine instruments together this way. Dan and Peter also made this a great
experience, I was able to take my time, alone in the room, trying every bass I wanted
through any amp combination I wanted. Great bass, great people... saved a long time
for this, and this experience did not disappoint.

Nice one David. Looks great. I visited the shop too before I placed my custom order. Ended up with just what I wanted.
