Thanks. What would you compare them to?

The only other nickel string I have a lot of experience with are DR Sunbeams. The Sadowskys seem a bit brighter, and have a slightly smoother feel.

Full disclosure: I'm a big flats fan and never use steels anymore -- just too zingy and fret-eating for me. YMMV.

I'm going to have flats covered by my Dingwall Super P, but I think I might have to try them on this at some point. A J with flats is completely different to a P with flats after all!

Just snagged a pretty good deal on some Dunlop Super Brights on eBay, might give those a whirl and see what they're like.

I would stick with what you are used to at first. I like dunlop ultra bright nickels and dr hi beams on my ms4.

Hey guys - got this rather beautiful MV4 recently in a part-trade deal (I got rid of a Strat). The strings are pretty dead on it and I'm trying to decide what to put on to suit the Sadowsky pre and the maple fingerboard. I've always used nickels, usually Elixirs. Toying with putting steels on for that zingier slap tone, but to be fair I have that covered with my J-Retro equipped Dingwall Super J (which has more of a 70s pickup placement anyway). What are other people using?

DR Sunbeams or Hibeams.

I had some Sadowsky blue nickel flats and liked the tone, but they are a bit stiff for me and they didn't last as long as I like.

I use the Sadowsky Blue Nickel. They're finger friendly which I like.

I love the DR Sunbeams as well. Long-time fan. Currently have 'em on my Mike Lull V4.

I also may have a weird thing about preferring Sadowsky strings on Sadowsky basses.

Incidentally, and not to go off topic, but I adore the Sadowsky flats on my Fender P Basses. I used to be strictly a LaBella FS guy, but I find the Sadowskys have a bit more going on in the mids and are a nice middle ground between the too-low-tension-for-me TIs and the somewhat-high-tension LaBellas.

It's not just you, I genuinely like the Sadowsky strings (don't remember who makes them). I do feel like an absolute dork playing my Sadowsky bass through my Sadowsky amp, using Sadowsky strings, and you can guess the brand of my strap.

I'm old though, and I really don't care what others say--I just know what I like.

I find the nickels (Black Label) a nice balance between too bright for my playing and a toned-down sound. It hits that middle that I'm looking for.

Well, even though my outdoor gig cancelled tonight due to the unbelievably cold temperatures down here (it's a frigid 50 degrees F; the struggle is real!), it freed me up to go down to the local FedEx office and pick up a little package from Long Island City. Gotta go out now and sit in at a friend's gig and try this thing out.

Congrats on your new Sadowsky. Good choice on the portabag as well. They're awesome. Protection of a hardshell with convenience of a gig bag...
