For me it was that I needed an ash/maple NYC and it was available. I dont use the highest frets on the gig. I just judge the overall bass and this one is awesome.

The tuners, are hipshot, so those were easy to get. The string tree was also something I got after market. But the bridge, was the hardest to find. Somebody had one on the classifieds here, and I grabbed it.
I also have them on my metro , but the guy I bought it from had them on.I love the black hardware

My Sadowsky UV60 was very sad to be alone , so I present her is little sister :
The Sadowsky UV60 NYC has an one piece alder body, Brasilian rosewood and singles coils pup 's in 60's position, born in april 2008.
The Sadowsky 5 NYC has an chambered alder body, flamed maple board and humcancelling pup's in 70's position, born in september 2008.
They are both complementary and sound really great.
And now, the family :

That has always been my FAVE Sadowsky combination.. . My first 1994 NYC 24 had that color combo. .Lightweight too..

Didn't see this posted previously, but check out an excerpt of the Will Lee podcast from Scott's Bass Lessons (link to full interview is also available).

The bass case is interesting. Looks like Scott recorded this over Skype or something? Anyhow the camera angles at Will's end made it hard to see how he is hanging the basses in terms of the HipShot lever. I always release my HipShot to hang the bass by the headstock, because otherwise the HipShot has to support the weight of the instrument; which doesn't seem like a good idea. YMMV

Q: why are Sadowsky basses and grandchildren similar?
As time has passed and I keep playing my trusty RV4 on the gig, I've finally decided that I really want to be playing an NYC. Nothing at all against the Metros. Sadowsky Japan is an awesome shop. And no, the NYC will NOT make me any kind of better player. And, yes, it might be an unnecessarily large expenditure for little gain; BUT, I just want to be playing an axe that comes from the hands of Roger's shop. Here is my RV4 for ref:

Great bass. Lots of stories with it. All I would really ever need. Anyhow, I guess this isn't about need.
So here's where I am going; the bass will be configured VERY similarly to this:

Oh, and black hardware. The shop seems ok with my trusty Delano pups; so, those are also part of the deal. I still have to work out the details of the body wood; but, that should be done tomorrow. Neck will be 1.45" nut, 9" radius, and of course with the detuner. Roasted Birdseye as in the model above. Tick tock, tick tock.
I went back and forth between specing a 4 or 5 string. But, I already have a really special 5 string; and the truth is that most of my gigs are perfectly served by the 4 with the detuner.
So, my black bass is headed to the shop for consignment (and pickup removal for the new instrument). In the meantime, I will have to get by with my J Deluxe with Sadowsky Onboard and Delano pups (same config - my "cheater").
This will be my main axe for the duration. God willing and the creek don't rise.
Ans: they both take 9 months!

Hey, pls clue me about the Delano pups, compared to the stock HCs.
I ADORE the stock 4 string HC's for playing pizz and plectrum. Just perfect. Where they were a bit dis-satisfying to me was slapping. I prefer the sound when slapping to lean towards hammer on granite, and the HC's didn't quite have that focus. But, I believe Roger recently went to a different wind which may address that character.
The Delano's pretty much ticked all three boxes. I originally bought a set to replace my Jazz Deluxe single slug pickups; but they were so good that they went immediately into my RV4. Within two days of install, I had the BL at Big Band rehearsal stop the entire 24 piece band mid-tune to ask me what I had done to make the bass suddenly sound so fantastic. It was actually a bit embarrassing. [Edit: forgot to mention that one of the things the Delano's do that was totally unexpected is that the neck pickup solo'd produces a 100% legit P Bass tone, with all that broad cavernous goodness.]
For the new build, the shop was somewhat noncommittal about using the "off brand" pickups. Which didn't really worry me, because I would just retrofit them if the shop was uncomfortable with them. But, apparently Lisa checked them out before putting the original SC's back in, and I haven't heard anything negative yet. I guess we won't know what the shop actually thinks until the build is completed; but, I know they did check them out. That's all I know at this point.

After a month at the spa (The Repair Zone), my RV5 is back with a new Tort PG and a full fret job! When I got the bass she was what I would say on the "dirty" side of things 
, It took some serious cleaning to get off the leftover human. The frets were beaten to heck, and somewhere down the line a pickup cover was added and removed- leaving only the holes in a well worn PG. Peter from Sadowsky sent me the new PG and it was a perfect fit. We had discussed sending the bass to them for the fret job, but we both felt that based on shipping charges it was a better idea for me to have it done locally.. Fred at The Repair Zone did an awesome fret job and now she feels and looks "newish". I love it! Crappy cell pic of course...

Love the tobacco burst with a rosewood board and tort pickguard. The classic look, IMHO.
Wow--the frets were worn out but the body doesn't look beat. Prior owner must have had a pretty heavy touch for it to need new frets without the body showing some marks. Is the nitro on the neck worn through?

I don't do that with my Metro WL, but I probably should. I'll do it starting tomorrow at our Labor Day gig, although if it's as windy as the forecast is calling for, I may just put it back in its gig bag in betw/ sets.
Just had mine restrung with Pure Blues (coming from Hi-Beams), so I'm curious how it will behave live with the nickels. We play a good amount of Motown/oldies, so warmer may be a better fit.
The body has a few tiny dimples, but nothing I would call a "ding". I was told that it looked like whomever had played it before me really only stayed in a couple positions because one area of the fretboard was much worse that the rest of it. 3rd-9th frets were like little mountain ranges.
As far as the neck finish, I've never owned a nitro finished neck but this one seems to be fine. There is a little funky spot down near the body joint on the treble side, but I think that's from sitting in the case over time, the high frets were in great shape, lol.
