i'm with ya, good buddy, on digging the WL neck profile on a fiver. for me the deal-maker is the narrower nut width; that taper suits my hand beautifully, down in the money frets.

i figure the standard vintage model's neck is great for someone who likes the feel of a P neck, but the WL is better for a J-lover.

The narrower 1-3/4" 5 string nut width is an option on all Sadowsky models, except for the Satin Series.

Took the WL5 to rehearsal last night. It rocked. This bass may be the most Jazz Bass 5 string I've played yet.

As time has passed and I keep playing my trusty RV4 on the gig, I've finally decided that I really want to be playing an NYC. Nothing at all against the Metros. Sadowsky Japan is an awesome shop. And no, the NYC will NOT make me any kind of better player. And, yes, it might be an unnecessarily large expenditure for little gain; BUT, I just want to be playing an axe that comes from the hands of Roger's shop. Here is my RV4 for ref:

Great bass. Lots of stories with it. All I would really ever need. Anyhow, I guess this isn't about need.

So here's where I am going; the bass will be configured VERY similarly to this:

Oh, and black hardware. The shop seems ok with my trusty Delano pups; so, those are also part of the deal. I still have to work out the details of the body wood; but, that should be done tomorrow. Neck will be 1.45" nut, 9" radius, and of course with the detuner. Roasted Birdseye as in the model above. Tick tock, tick tock.

I went back and forth between specing a 4 or 5 string. But, I already have a really special 5 string; and the truth is that most of my gigs are perfectly served by the 4 with the detuner.

So, my black bass is headed to the shop for consignment (and pickup removal for the new instrument). In the meantime, I will have to get by with my J Deluxe with Sadowsky Onboard and Delano pups (same config - my "cheater").

This will be my main axe for the duration. God willing and the creek don't rise.

Ans: they both take 9 months!:D

Good for you - you won't regret it! It's a bit daunting at first (the price tag), but if you're an experienced player, you'll understand why the NYC's are so special within minutes of playing one. It's one of the few instruments that fade somewhat from reality when played - in that it's not the bottleneck so many other instruments are. It responds to what you give (or don't give) it. The level of pushback we've grown accustomed to among other models just isn't there.

...In my experience of course.

Thanks. I have FULL confidence in the Shop's work. Not even a question.

It has been a LONG time since I commissioned a custom build. Based on what I have come to understand and what the Shop does...this bass will be a killer.

Just had my MV5 setup with La Bella DTF. Annoyingly, the A string is dead.

The tech just said though, this is one VERY well made bass. Perfectly cut nut, great bridge, fantastic neck and super responsive truss rod.

Love this bass!

Edited to say; La Bella live up to their reputation of great customer service, my email was answered in under an hour and they have sent out a replacement for the string I was unhappy with.
