My kinda girl . . .This is my favourite bass again at the moment. 2004 NYC RV4 that I bought used in April 2010. It currently has TI flats on it and I really like the feel. Of course, things do change, and I could easily go back to my white MV4 with Sadowsky Blue Label ss rounds before too long. Nice to have options

There are many bassists with signature models who aren't deserving of a signature model.
A person deserves whatever they can afford to buy! The builders feel that everyone is worthy!

I may have already "shared" a little about my view on the gear thing.
To me, it's always about eliminating potential for excuses. As in, "if I only had a better .... (amp, bass, cable, pedal, whatever)".
If you play quality gear, and you still suck, well, then you know who is responsible, don't you?
Then, all the focus is on getting YOU better, and you can stop worrying about other stuff.

I also really like this color, but wasn't sure it would fit my thing. So, my original backup was to repaint it in black. But, no, I'm liking the Dark Cherry Metallic just fine.
Back to the pickups, which are the newer Nordstrand winds; I had a VERY interesting discussion with Peter and Carmine at the shop about the differences between these and the Duncan winds. There have been some previous posts where players prefer the Duncan version. Peter explained to me that the Nordy's are wound to be a bit darker, and that is by intent. I won't go into the reasons; but, that's the main difference. The Duncan's have more bite to them.
I suppose it really depends on whether the player like apples or bananas. Working with the Nordy's both at home and in rehearsal, I've been very impressed by how close the bass sounds to my '62. I am really digging the tone. I did order some of the Duncan's, just to have options; but right now the Nordy's are going to stay. Which is a little odd for me, because the Duncan SJB2 are by far my favorite J pickup outside the Sadowsky pickups. Could be that I'm just gravitating more to the darker tones as I get older. Who knows; if I don't understand something these days, I just blame it on age.

Well, you know I always love putting up pictures of that amazing thing.

We're playing at a place called Jumbo Jimmy's Crab House up in Cecil County, MD. Pretty sure it's still there.
