Club Sadowsky!!!

are the older SD single coils available to purchase or can someone point me in a direction of a similar sounding pickup? I bought a new Metro WL5 and it sounds nothing like my older model WL4.
Yes, call the shop and ask for Peter. They do have the SD's.

I have the Nordstrands in an RV5-WL as well. I find that if you use about twice as much preamp boost as with the SD's, you can get some VERY useful and traditional sounds out of the Nordy's. Don't be afraid to use the preamp a bit more than you are used to. It's worth it. I have ordered some SD's for my bass; but, truthfully, the Nordy's may stay in my bass now that I have figured out how to use the pre with them.

J in 60s positon?
Yes

What made you pick the alder/maple combo?

PMFJI: I can't take credit for kevk's choice, but my favorite Sadowsky is alder/maple (and also black with black guard)! Alder/maple seems to be my favorite tone combo overall, possibly because I'm mostly a P-bass guy (shrug).

Haha...actually, @Fuzzbass DID have some influence into my decision. I'm an alder body fan (much more open and stronger mids to my ear), but wanted a little more snap that maple boards bring. My TB research found many happy alder/maple board owners, including several who regretted their decision to sell. My intention is to live with the P solo'd most of the time, with maybe a small amount of J when I want more bite...

For a LOOOOOONG time, I've wanted a Gloss Black body, BWB, Chrome, Maple board bass! Also, really like the shape of the 5-24 pickguards! drool

Thanks! Going to order a set tomorrow.

Nice explanation! I'm putting together a very similar personal bass for similar reasons.

I've owned a Sadowsky MV4 for about 3 years. I have gone through about 10 string changes and multiple set ups. For whatever reason the strings never feel like they have enough tension, making awkward to play. The instrument sounds fantastic but I struggle with the feel of the instrument. Am I the only one experiencing this? Any suggestions to improve the playability? I've got medium nickels on right now.

Maybe I'm not playing as much as you (I realize you've had yours longer)... I've had mine since January ('16 MV4), playing 2-3 times/week... depending on humidity/temp, stays in tune, with string tension pretty much like the rest of my stable... standard blue label roundwounds installed.
