Got this today and it'll be on it's way back to New York tomorrow or Monday. There's a small blemish in the finish that is either a foreign object trapped underneath the clear coat or the finish itself is just damaged. The object/damage appears to cast a small shadow onto the wood beneath it.

Say what you will about how small it is and how picky I'm being, but I've been saving up for this bass for four years, and for $5,900 it needs to be absolutely perfect. And honestly, it's so obvious that I'm shocked this left the shop.

I'd be the same way, so no judgement... if I was dropping that much on anything, I would expect it to be perfect, also... it may not mean much, but in my mind, I believe it will get taken care of, to your satisfaction... no doubt.

I have no doubt that it will be a happy ending. It's just that waiting nine and half months, opening the case and being initially speechless, and then finding that... :crying:

As with most smaller issues, my cell phone picture doesn't really represent it very well.

I actually did laugh at that.

After a few hours of sulking around the house, I did just go back downstairs and plug it in for the first time. Good lord!!!

I know where you're coming from with this. Good to hear it is a tone monster! The way I would see it if mine, I'd treat it as a birth mark and a way to always know its mine from any other built like it. I think....At least I'd mull over it a bit! ;)

Is it an "imperfection" in the wood. Imperfection is the wrong term it is wood after all.

Not to trivialize, I do feel your pain! I know if it happened to me my wife would say she's not surprised. I'm always receiving goods that have way more obvious things wrong.

It is still a work of art. Like a reflecting pool in the mountains! Beautiful!

In my experience there is no such thing as a "perfect" bass. There's always going to be something - be it a blemish somewhere on the finish, a dead spot, or some inconsistency in tone somewhere. You have to look at the overall and decide whether it works for you or not. If the bass sounded great to me I'd keep it, cause great looking basses are a lot easier for me to come by than basses that meet my sonic expectations and standards. :)

Back of the neck on my 2010 P5 (CAR with Brazilian board). The spots are unusually visible compared to other boutiques I own/have owned, but this bass plays and sounds great so I just chalked 'em up to the nature of wood.

I am NOT here to say that MMiller is wrong for returning the bass: his issue is different, and my decision should not impact his regardless. Props to Roger for a return policy that provides peace of mind when making such a significant purchase.

1. Love your avatar

2. My main player is an NYC Will Lee and it's about as close as I've ever come to perfection. 5 years and counting. The bass is as stable as any I've owned. Several engineers have told me it's the cleanest, most full-range sounding bass they've ever heard.

3. Having said that, if you pay this much for a brand new instrument, I understand being thrown off by a blemish on the front.

Roger is famous for standing behind his work and this is shown by his immediate response here. Ironically, this sort of serves as an endorsement of Sadowsky.
