Hey, just thought I'd drop a note about the Super J pickup set. Got some quality time in the woodshed and on stage, now. Figure it might be of interest to folks considering that option on a new build.

My initial impression of these pups (smooth, refined, well-balanced) is confirmed. I'm struck by how even the response is, in all registers. Ditto, my sense that the three-way switching for the bridge pup ('60s position, '70s position, both) would be useful is confirmed. It's kinda like the voicing knob on my Subway amp; I choose the voice best suited to the room and the gig, and tweak the preamp knobs as the tunes require.

In addition, I'm really struck by how nicely these pups translate nuances in how and where I touch the string, whether plucking, thumping, or popping. The bass feels responsive, and I very much enjoy that. When my technique is good, I don't have to wrestle with the bass at all to get the articulation to be effective. Uh...and when my technique is lacking, I hear what I gotta work on!

Bottom line, IMHO/IME: def worth the upcharge.

DOH!!! Just 3 weeks into placing my build - I think I need to ask for progress pictures!

So there we go, I did a short clips of the P5, no fancy playing here, kinda a noodling track but you will get the idea, the bass go straight to the UA Apollo Twin and Apple Logic Platform without any editing.
My bass strung with Black Label Flats, in full vol, 90% tone, tre set flat and slightly bass boost only, this is what I wanna hear from a P most of the time. :) (Please use any good headphone/speaker for listening)
