I appreciate the support. I just going have to wait if Sadowsky do another sale and have a 5-24 available. I do Love that blue single cut but my budget came short. That bass would had been my going home gift as i got 2 months left from my year long deployment and retirement gift as i am one year to short to retire from a 30 year service.
I have another Satin J-Bass headed my way! And it's BLUE like my other one! Long post warning...
I know I've shared here before that my lightweight 7.63 lb Satin J really saved my bass-playing career. A year ago, an old upper-back injury had recurred, I was in pain, was needing several Advils to get through a 4-hour gig. My chiropractor asked, "Is there anything you can do to get some weight off your back when you play?" I remembered that Sadowsky offers chambered basses in the Satin series, went online, and there was one right there on the in-stock page weighing in at 7.63 pounds. I actually wasn't in love with the Dark Lake Placid Blue color at the time, but I called and bought it on the spot. I have loved my Sadowsky Metro J (also blue, LOL), so I knew I'd love the sound and feel. The lighter weight was a hail-mary throw to hopefully help with my back and keep me from considering retirement.
The DLPB Satin J has been a godsend. I can't believe how much difference 1.5 - 2.0 pounds in a bass makes in how my back holds up on a long gig. I've had it for 10 months and have not touched any of my other basses. It plays perfectly, sounds incredible, and the chambered lightweight body has helped so much with my back (no more Advils!). I got to thinking about my other basses... I have a small stack of nice solid-bodied basses sitting in their cases.... There is no way I am going to risk playing a heavier bass on a 4 hour gig any more. I'm 50. My band depends on me to deliver at gigs. Not worth the risk in my case. So I literally have only one bass I'll gig and several nice heavier basses I'll never play again. I decided to start selling the heavy ones and get a second Satin just for a backup, if nothing else.
The other thing about that Satin bass, the funny thing, is how many comments and compliments I get on the blue satin finish. Non-musicians especially. Bump into someone at another band's gig and hear, "hey, that blue bass of yours is really cool." The satin blue color has grown on me and become something I just really enjoy.
So I thought about it and decided my second Satin J bass would also be blue. Why not, right? LOL. Decided on Lake Placid Blue, a little lighter shade. As far as models, I put a lot of consideration into both the Verdine White and the Modern. In the end though, in addition to the chambered body and Sadowsky build quality being the biggest factors, the ergonomics and sound of a Jazz-style bass are my favorite, so I'm sticking with the Satin J. I decided (since I had the opportunity, what the heck...) to get my first non-ash/maple bass in a long time, so I went with alder/morado.
I phoned Sadowsky Guitars expecting to put in an order (and wait a while) on a LPB alder/morado Satin J 4-string. But Carl checked, and they actually had one in the works in that exact configuration, did I want to order it? It's on it's way here now.
I'll post pics of the new one once I get a chance. Will also see if I hear any difference from the tonewoods. For now, here's a photo of my lifesaver DLPB bass. Sorry for the long post!

When you have these issues (mine is lower back), it's a great feeling to be able to focus on playing rather than, "How do I get to the end of this set".
believe it. i sometimes feel a little silly talking to builders/luthiers about 8lbs vs 9lbs, or even 9lbs vs 9.5lbs, but it really does make a noticeable difference over the course of a whole gig, and i don't really have any particularly significant back issues.
Speaking of Satins. Did you see the black/silver burst on the website? My wallet is quivering

BTW, the pickguard looks waxy/scratched due to protective film
