Club Sadowsky!!!

Vic, maybe. But my mv5 is ash/maple as is the Fender and I leave the pre flat...same strings too

I have owned identical twin basses that sounded surprisingly different, even when freshly strung with identical string sets. "Identical twin" means same manufacturer, same model, same woods, same components. (OK, the paint colors were different, but are we really gonna go there?)

Logic says that the tonal differences are due to the variable nature of wood. I largely disagree that each wood species has a specific tone. Based on my experience, each species has its own RANGE of tones. Point being, it's difficult if not impossible to compare two basses and declare that the tonal difference between them must be because of Reason X.

What Vic has been saying applies regardless. I believe you are comparing an active Sadowsky with a passive Fender. As he has said, there are MANY differences, even if woods are the same. Just one example: an onboard preamp has an effect on tone even when it's set "flat".

So, just throwing this out there:

I was one who swapped HC's for SC's on the Metro MV5's I owned.

And yet ... this 2018 one I have (and am trying to sell ... hint/hint ... shameless plug) has more midrange/sparkle with HC's than I remember.

I'm probably late to the party, but didn't Roger and Co switch over to 500K pots, which brings the HC tone closer to the SC?

Just FYI, he did say he's using an Audere with the Fender, so it's not passive, but I still consider that to be a significant difference as we both are saying.

interested if anyone is using either of the nano heads (TE Elf, tC BAM) or headphone amp (like Phil Jones Big Head) for prax only. Also considering GK Plex preamp pedal.

I’m relegated to headphone prax to maintain marital bliss, would like something to just stay in prax room and be always available. A backup big head seems overkill.

Thoughts on any of these?

Will be asking in a couple of my clubs, so apologies for cross-posting for some of you.

I use the Cafe Walter with Sennheiser HD598’s for exactly this situation. GREAT silent practice rig.

Wow, the website has been updated today apparently! I only know because I lurk there way too much ha.

The "See all in stock instruments" is a great new feature and takes you to a completely updated and easier to browse in-stock section.

You may wanna lock up your credit card before you visit

Do you like that? That was actually an experimental take on the in stock page that I meant as an alternative way to look at it. I accidentally subbed it in as the main in stock page. Looks great for basses but lacks something for Archtops. I’ll leave it up a little longer.

Personally, I liked it because I’m always checking out the in stock page, and I always had to click the drop-down and then click a couple more links to get to the in stock page.

This way there’s just one obvious button that I click on the main homepage. Less clicks equals better user experience for me.

Cool...what about when you go to the page and it’s just big body shots? That was actually more of the experiment...to show it all on one page with bigger photos.

It’s funny, a customer recently suggested that we put another link to the in stock page “above the fold” and said that we should make it red or burnt orange...good idea!

Oh yeah I definitely like the new in stock page!

It looks like you’re able to squeeze more instruments onto the page now, so I can get an idea of everything you have all at once. And then click it if I want more details.

But I guess I’m partial to the body shots because my favorite instruments are Sadowsky Moderns, and when I see the body I immediately know if it’s a modern or not.

I use an Ampeg SCR-DI, mainly for practice... a couple of times for recording, and a pre for a jam with 'Neil Peart, Jr'... the unit is built like a tank, and sounds great!

It’s not really what I’d consider a “nano head” but I use my Bergantino B Amp for playing shows, in the studio AND for practicing alone. I’m not sure why the Aux In and Headphones Out don’t get the attention the other features do, but they’ve been great for letting me practice at home alone as well as woodshed while I’m on the road and sharing a hotel room with a bandmate without disturbing their sleep (it’s especially nice to be able to plug in my phone and make charts for other gigs by playing along to some tunes).

I’ve also got a Trace Elliot Elf “nano head” that I bought strictly as a backup amp (really for those circumstances when an opening band “forgot” their bass amp and expects to use mine without asking), and while it’s been a decent little amp I’ve gotten spoiled by my B Amp and the Elf just lives in our rehearsal space when it’s not on the road with me.

Stock page looks great. Sooo much temptation... Can you add tags or categories at the top to filter results?

I'm going to add some categories to the top...each listing has tags that can be clicked that will further sort things. I should probably add a note for that!
