...or his wind changed? I may have to revisit this sometime....Guess we just hear the Nordy’s differently.
+1 Hard to say. It was probably 20 months ago that Lisa reworked a WL5 for me; and, at the time I cycled through the shop’s Nordys, SD’s, and the Delano JMVC’s; latter of which which I eventually settled on, even though they aren’t single coil....or his wind changed? I may have to revisit this sometime.
That was definitely way after my last experience with the pickups Roger was using from him when I last checked them out, so this is probably the answer....probably 20 months ago...I do believe that Carey had somewhat recently (at the time) provided the SC’s wound to Roger’s spec.

i'm pretty sure even wound to the same specs, coming from different shops, they'd still have at least some subtle differences.Does the shop just bounce back and forth between Nords and SDs for their single coils? You’d think that either way they’d be wound to Sadowsky’s specs, and wouldn’t be that different.
i don't think it was that simple... depends on HC vs SC and 4 string vs 5 string, plus year of manufacture. Roger doesn't maintain all this stuff publicly... which i personally feel is a good position, but some discovery has happened organically regardless, and he doesn't seem to mind talking about it a little bit from time to time.Last I knew all NYC bass are loaded were SD while the MetroLines have Dimarzio.
The way I understand things is that way back, the SD’s (wound to Roger’s spec) were the shop’s standard SC. For a long time. Then, somewhere around 2016 - 2017, Roger spec’d another SC with Carey Nordstrand. Roger’s intent was to have a more neutral and transparent voicing. Which the new pickups delivered. But, player feed back was that they preferred the “character” in the old SD’s. So, I believe the shop has gone back to the SD’s and made the Nordys an option.Does the shop just bounce back and forth between Nords and SDs for their single coils? How recently have you heard a set? Sounds like a couple years ago Roger made a change. I have not heard the current ones, FWIW.Those nordstrand singles sounded really snarly to me. Tons of high mids, not much true highs.

A wonderful start to the day! I just got my first pic of my body out of paint!
