looks like a botched "relic" attempt to me, the bass look dead mint outside of the thumb rest and lower horn.
If the bass got played a lot, the pickup covers would have some gunk on it and buffed gloss. Those pickup covers also look dead mint..

First Sadowsky with ash and maple. Much snappier and noticeably brighter than my alder and Morado combo.

The metro express compares pretty well to this MetroLine. I’m curious to get my hands on a nyc now....really been tossing around a custom order for a red flame top with a rosewood board heheehehe

No love for my string comparison request above , but I have another comparo question to ask of this august bunch.

How would/does a comparably configured (maple neck) Sadowsky UV70 sound compared to a USA Geddy Lee bass?
I ask because I live in an RF nightmare (way too many dimmer switches) and my Geddy is pretty noisy here. My MetroLine RV4 is SILENT as a submarine in comparison.
If I choose to mod the Geddy with hum cancelling pickups and a pre-amp, the cost gets into the range of a nice used UV70. I’m happy with the distinctive 70s Jazz bass sound of my USA Geddy. Is the UV70 a different beast entirely, or is it in the same aggressive, growly neighborhood?

Say, can anyone point me to links for a set of old-style Jazz Bass knobs that fit a Sadowsky? I actually bought a replacement set from Fender, but their concentric knobs don't fit the Sadowsky concentric pot shaft. Mine's a Tokyo-made Metro, if that makes any difference.

you don't need a preamp to be silent. if you love the tone of the geddy as it is (as i do), you just need well shielded and grounded hum cancelling pickups. i put good old fashioned dimarzio model j's in mine, it sounds excellent, and is dead silent in the "rude" venues. LOTS of great choices tho, seymour duncans and sadowsky would be also high on my list.

Yes, I know the pre-amp won’t fix the noise issue, but I appreciate your heads up. Just trying to make things “apples to apples” cost-wise for the comparison.

i would ask why you'd do that. IMHO i'd try to keep the variety of each bass's identity in my stable. in my case, i like the fact the geddy is a very different sounding and playing j bass from my sadowskys. i'm keeping it that way. :)

The UV70 is every inch a Sadowsky, so you need to weigh that. It's not going to sound mega-close to a passive Fender, even in passive preamp mode. But it is growly and the bridge-only sound is particularly so. And it does the 70's thing with aplomb. It's the first bass I'd reach for in a fire.

Sorry for the confusion.
No intent on my part to try to make my Geddy try to sound like a Sadowsky!
I like the Geddy and am happy with “its” sound.
No plan to make the Geddy active at this point and I have a Sadowsky SBP-2 pedal available if that was what I wanted to do for some reason (temporarily).
Just wondered if the UV70 was “Geddy-like” and I muddied the waters with too much info.
