so the case warps when opened: not a major problem, but it is awkward.

This is why I liked the Protec bag, it has a solid ridge around the edge so it won't sag. I've had many brands of floppy gig bags...

Wow, just checked price on Amazon and just like everything the price has gone up. I think when i bought mine years ago it was 120, now 174.

My only complaint is I wish the big pocket was square to accommodate large music charts... It has a rounded top that makes it hard to fit a large book in it.

I have a Mono Vertigo, which to me is the finest case out there.

I also have a Gator double if need be.

I have yet to take my NYC out of the house, and if I do, the MONO will be up for the challenge.

The Gator case is fine for now , I also have 2 new Reunion Aero cases that I use for my Metro and Ray which are very good.I was using Mono 80 double case for a while but I found it had to much bulk , prefer the Aero.

Gator pro-go is a great gig bag as well. I have 2 of them and are a little lighter than the portabag but has super plush padding. Storage is excellent as well.

The Mono M80 gets raves... maybe I got a bad one, because I found it to be a spendy bag that was not remotely as good as the Portabag. Seemed OK at first, but eventually became floppy...

Excellent point. Mine after over 10 years is definitely floppy.

I had always wished that Protec would make a dual Contego bag. Awhile back , I found that Access made a Stage 3 dual bag that looked a lot like the Contego, though not the teardrop shape, but it was discontinued. I see now that Access has a Stage 2 bag that looks identical to what I remember of the Stage 3 dual bag. I might have to check one of those out.

Reunion Aeros look great and I love the teardrop shape, but the pockets seem flat and not gusseted, so I wasn't sure if there was enough space to hold strap and instrument cable (at minimum). Am I wrong?

You are correct, there is not a ton of space in there. the Continental has more space.

It will hold a strap and cable not much else , the outer pockets will only hold very slim objects like strings , picks IMO it a better case than the Mono 80 I was using , Skjold was using them to ship their basses , don't know if they still do.

The Protec bags are great! I got mine years ago from a post in the TB hot deals when they were going for $75. I also really like my Sadowsky Portabag (made by Access) - lots of storage and built like a tank, but definitely the heaviest of any gig bag I've had.

I don't use the Protec or Sadowsky bags much anymore as I'm typically carrying two basses so I have a backup. I've had the Mono M80 dual bag that I use 99% of the time since March 2011 and though it's showing some age nowadays (including a rip at one of the seams that happened last year - Mono said was not covered under their warranty), it has held up great for over 10 years. That Mono bag has had its fair share of rides in trailers, under busses, in truck beds, etc. and has been a very impressive piece of gear. My only complaint if I had one would be wishing it had a bit more storage space.

Protec Contego is the bag that came with my MTD Saratoga. I got it used, but it must be the case that came with the bass originally too because it has the MTD logo on it.

It's really solid with lots of support all around. The outer shell is pretty tough and seems to be water repellent, although I'm not sure on that. I may get a 2nd one of those for the Sadowsky, it's pretty reasonably priced.

Warwick is now offering two teardrop-shaped cases, one less pricey and one more so. No experience with those.

Portabag is the sturdiest (non-hardshell) case…that I’ve found. Agree, it’s a bit heavy, but you know a bass is safe inside!

Also like the Gator Pro Go series a lot!

My 30” scale MTD came in a TKL electric guitar gigbag (and Roscoe basses also ship in the full size version…) It’s a fairly decent padded bag, lightweight (and not floppy)…not a lot of storage, but it’s also the thinnest bag if you have minimal storage space. I like them better than my old Contego’s…maybe C’s have been improved???

I’ll take the added weight of the Portabag for the amount of protection it provides. True to form, Roger took an already great product, the Stage 5, and made it even better before he put his name on it. I don’t doubt the Roger.

I will say for value the roadrunner highway premium gig bag is surprisingly great. It's rigid and very plush inside with a good amount of storage. It is roomy inside so a full sized body bass fits better than downsized bodies. I use it for a telecaster bass and it fits perfectly.

I used to be a hardshell-case-only guy... until I got the Portabag. I feel the protection is at least as good as a standard hardshell case, and there's also much less risk of me denting walls or car (or myself!) after those late night gigs.

I started with a Sadowsky rectangular soft case in 2006. One of the 'hinge' straps kept getting in the way of the zipper and the case wouldn't stand up like hardshell cases I'd used for decades.
Next came the Portabag which is the one I use today. Perfect.
Around 2012 I bought another NYC bass with a Portabag which I use for best.
I lived in the UK for a while and shipping, tax, exchange rates etc. put a Portabag out of my range so I bought a Protec from Germany.
I don't like the interior as much, the interior neck support straps I find awkward, the velcro strap under the handles isn't easily accessible to me and the pockets don't suit me as well as the Portabag. I thought the Protec was heavier but I don't really remember as I only use it to store a bass in.
The Portabag goes over my shoulders, amp in a backpack and a TC 2x10 in one hand with the other hand for opening doors etc.
My 10c, if there was any doubt.

Out of curiosity I reached out to my Sadowsky and the treble control is as tight as the others. The only thing that bothers me a little is that one can move it while rotating the bass control. Given choice I would have preferred a concentric for volume/balance and then 3 single knobs.
