I’ve actually never used or found value in strap locks before I got my Sadowsky straps. Now that I have them I’ll never let go, but if I had to play without them I wouldn’t Be bothered at all. But my mij metro WL 5 and my build (Modern 5er almost finished) will be set with with the locks on my strap so I won’t ever have to worry about them again!
I'm completely in the Dunlop camp, but I believe there's a Warwick/Schaller connection so the Schaller locks make sense from a business standpoint. Same as you I keep extra Dunlops on hand, but even if I didn't it would be a nothingburger to switch over to Dunlops. I've done it for many other instruments over the years.
To me it's more about a dash of OCD and consistency. The standard locks on a Sadowsky Sadowsky are Dunlops, so the locks on a Warwick Sadowsky should be as well. Otherwise it makes you wonder what other changes are being made (or corners being cut).
My best bass for a long while was a USA Fender Jazz, and since they use the Schallers I'd standardized on that system. When I got my first Sadowsky I figured that if Roger's educated decision was to use the Dunlops, who was I to question it, so I've switched all of my basses over (*).
Warwick is calling the Schallers "Sadowsky S-Style Security Locks" so it seems they're "Roger Approved" as well and my reasoning falls apart.
* Except for my Peavey T-40, which still has Schallers on it. It also has it's own strap to help my shoulder deal with all of that mass, so it's not necessary to swap it out.
One of the points I was trying to make is that there are no corners being cut. Schaller are of the same quality as Dunlop, we just like Dunlops better. When I still lived in Europe, Schaller were wildly more popular over there than Dunlops. Now that some Sadowsky basses are made in Europe and more accessible to people in other countries, the decision which strap locks to use might just be based on that.
I know how to use them, I've used them for years and and I've also owned a Warwick in the past with the same mechanism. But these ones definitely didn't fit. it's like the strap button and the lock weren't a pair. They had slightly mismatched finishes too. It might've been a mistake on their end sending the wrong packet.
Anyway I replace them today with Schaller S-Locks, no complaints now!
Ahhh, I like Dunlops, but would just swap ‘em out if a bass came with something else - not a big deal.
It’s not a big deal, just more of a little annoyance I guess. Just got used to my Roscoe’s all coming with them.
Approx the 13th time I bought a Sadowsky.

I'm sure this has more to do with it than anything else. Schallers (or the Warwick manufactured version) don't have to be imported from the US.
Wait until all these people find out how much strings cost and that those have to be changed too
The problem for me is you can't just hook a standard strap on the Schallers, and I like to use the same strap as my NYC jazz.
I just use Grolsch washers on all my basses, whether or not they have come fitted with a straplock. Never failed me yet
I had a Ken Smith bass back in the 80's that had the embedded Dunlops...the only problem was if you did not have a strap with the Dunlop pin locks you were screwed!
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE DUNLOPS! (they are on all of my basses) because you can use the as a regular strap pin or the locking pin...dual usage.
It was Ken's way of embedding the Dunlops, it took away the regular strap pin usage. It looked cool, but made the Dunlops a single function.

For me, strap locks are noisy.
Years ago, I was in the studio and the engineer and producer kept hearing this kind of rattle on the bass track, sounded like strings rattling against the frets. I double checked for fret buzz, but that wasn't it.
Turned out it was the strap locks rattling.
Never used them since.
