Yeah, I emailed him and he didn’t confirm nor deny the serial number situation. Just gave me a contact for a guy in Japan. I didn’t know customs orders were possible with Metroline Japan but maybe there was the occasional one off? Let’s see if I get a reply.
They were? I wasn’t aware of that. I know back in the day they basically did something similar to what was going on in NYC but this basa has “Metroline” on the headstock so I always thought those ones were limites in options. I’m also interested to see what Okada say.
Well that’s the thing I guess. At this point I’m just intrigued to know if it’s authentic and have too much time on my hands, haha.
The cavity on the bridge looks big. Definitely don’t think single coils would be an option. I also recall Roger in the past saying they were having problems with electrical interference with the EMGs and changed to seymour Duncan’s (but that may have been for a different model).
I'm curious about one thing: are the pickups currently installed in German-Chinese Sadowsky basses supplied by Sadowsky? Or they are MEC-Framus-Warwick pickups? I mean, since the MetroExpress basses are being made by Warwick in Germany and China... I saw some MEC pickups and they are very similar to the MetroExpress RSD basses, except for the logo, of course.

As far as I know, Roger has always used a 3rd party for his pickups, built to his specs...Dimarzio, Nordstrand, and Seymour Duncan are the ones I can think of.(edit)
I put a set of MetroExpress single coil pickups (with white "Sadowsky" lettering) in one of my MIJ Metros and they sound very close to my other Sadowsky MIJ that has a set of Sadowsky singles made by Nordstrand...that being said I don't know who made them...could be Warwick, as they seem to be an all-in-house manufacturer...IDK for sure. Roger?
As far as tone they both have darker tones IMHO, but are super quiet.

Kind of makes me wish I got it now. Although it’s pretty much not what I was looking for at all. I just get drawn in by things that are “different”. Cool bass.

It has a Sadowsky Preamp so it counts, a little
I envy the newer Sadowsky fiver headstocks with larger tuning posts and quick release string hold-downs instead of the simple bar.... but I am not about to fix what isn't broken on my basses!
