But I agree. Roger and co are super helpful, want your money, but also want you to be happy. Roger answered all my stupid questions with great patience, and I'm very happy with the results. He has time set aside during the week you can call him, and the shop is usually pretty good about answering emails, although they get busy.

Hopefully this question is ok. I’ve been looking at some used Metroline 4 and 5s. Circa 2011-2014. Is $2500 a high number in your eyes? I saw some 5s going for 2k on here so I just don’t want to overpay or lowball someone either. My nyc was 3k brand new from Roger’s shop. Granted that was in 2018 and nyc values go up a bit. But I was curious if that’s the case for the Japanese metrolines. Any info on that era of metrolines is appreciated. By most accounts those were some quality builds.

i don't think so. i paid that not too long ago and was happy to do so. those japanese metrolines were always a particularly stellar value dollar for dollar. Roger and Yoshi worked very hard to provide an instrument that was as close to an NYC as possible, but shaving thousands off the price. And especially now that there's kind of a big gap between the current MetroExpresses and Metrolines, if you can find one of the older Japanese models at one of those prices that's in great condition, it's a good deal. About the only thing you might want to watch out for on the Japanese Metrolines... if you care... is the weight. The solid bodies could get a little heavier. Not bad, but something to ask about.

I watch in wonder as I see folks list their Japan MetroExpress and NYC Satin models for way more than the original retail. More evidence that the Japan Metro used pricing is very reasonable.

Thanks everyone. Super helpful. I love the sadowsky 4 string neck a lot. A little thicker makes it super easy to play. I have not played a sadowsky 5 string but have heard great things. Is it a pretty fast neck when it comes to upper register soloing and fret access? Also towards the nut how is the playability, in terms of stretching the hand? For reference, I also play a classic fender pbass 4 and the wider nut doesn’t bother me at all. Upper register is fine too on that.
I’m not able to play a 5 string sadowsky locally so I wanted to ask. I may check my local shops and see if they have some of the German lower cost metrolines I can try, but I’m not sure if the neck will be the same or not.

Can you say….”Totaled”? Uuuugh. Seller packed it…poorly…to say the least. Now the fight for a refund. Reverb’s saying “ he purchased the shipping himself”. They don’t handle any claims. They can only request the seller give a refund. What a nightmare.

Did you purchase it through Reverb payments or PayPal?
Also, I looked at Reverb’s buyer protection policy and I didn’t see anything about it being contingent on using their shipping. Although I’ve found them comparable to Pirate Ship pricing for UPS.
Sorry for your pain.

Such a tragedy. Beautiful bass. Reverb says since they didn’t provide the shipping, the seller is responsible for filing the claim. And as the seller has already received payment, they have no recourse to get a refund to me. Good times. maybe the seller will reach out right away, and say “Sure, here’s all your money back ,plus the cost to ship it back to me”.

Everything looks fine except the lower bout split from front to back. Musta really took a whack. Was wrapped in 1 layer of bubble wrap, thrown into a makeshift interior box, then left loosely in the outside box, to allow “total freedom of movement” ( you want it to breathe during shipping) . And there you have it.

Did the seller insure the package? If he did then he should make a claim with the shipping company.
