Lot's of threads on this. On a somewhat related topic that is Sadowsky specific, I put a clip up of my NYC ash/maple vintage with Sadowsky singles through a 'clean but old school rig in post 135 (I think). The clip was really meant to highlight the rig for a TBer, but since I used the Sadowsky, I thought I'd post it up.
While I typically play with a cab with a tweeter to get that classic Sadowsky sizzle, there is something very cool about the 'Sadowsky with Sadowsky singles' tone to me through a more old school cab (in this case a single 15). I sure wouldn't call it 'Fendery', but more 'Sadowsky with some grunt' or something (especially with those grindy, mid present Sadowsky Stainless Steel Blue labels, which I have come to love!). Lot's more grunt than I typically have in my sound with that bass, but it's cool in its own way IMO.
That bass is probably my least 'Fendery' sounding bass, but Roger does a magnificent job of making it sound 'J-like' but all Sadowsky at the same time to my ear (especially with his wonderful single coil pickups). IMO... really... IMO
I love that clip with the Sadowsky and LDS 1x15. If I didn't know any better I would not make the association. That old school cab vibe I think really takes the tone in a different direction then I'd expect from a Ash/ Maple SC Sadowsky.

That's also my direction. My soild ash/maple/SC Sadowsky J gives me that kind of tone when paired with an old school rig. I'm thinking about getting me a nice 1x15 with no tweeter or maybe another 1x12 (just for portability) to match my GS112.
I'm going to take the heat off my friend Ken with some new photos...

+1 HC's through a wide voiced, clean more modern rig (or direct, in your case I believe)... nice! I can get close to that with my singles through our identical Epi/MB rig, but the SC's still grunt just a touch more, with a bit more lower treble grind than upper treble sizzle.
I like it all!

All I have to say about those is "Wow!" At first I was looking at your post on my iPhone with the little screen and thought "nice quilt" Then I sat down at my computer with the 24" screen and thought "Darn nice quilt!" That 24-5 is going to be killer!

I sent Roger an email the other day. I am sending in my Standard 5 for some Singles installed and a signature Sadowsky Setup!
I love the HC in my 4 banger but, the 5'er is missing something. I believe the Singles will cure it.
