Ah. cool! Again, I totally agree that the VTC would be relatively useless for quite a few players. I personally dig it in the few situations that I really need to 'tame the sizzle' and fatten the tone a bit.

+1 - this is exactly what I use it for, and I use it often depending on the tone I need for the given tune.

Let me just say Im not upset at anyone. I like having discussions about gear, especially Sadowsky's. I consider myself a borderline expert about them. I just dont like it when someone gets personal with me. Dont like it here or in person. If you know me, then you know that much about me. Thats it. I respect Ken's opinions in the past and will in the present and the future.

Same here. I'm on the fence regarding Alder or Ash with a Braz-rw board. Lemme know what you think of that 5 for grins.

All of my Sadowsky basses are ash/maple. I've got a few of Roger's alder/rw guitars.....

I'm hoping to hear back from a friend in a while.

I haven't played that wood combo......or one of the newer chambered models. All of mine are pre-chambering.

I have a Ash/Maple J/J now.
All of the above and I have been driving Vic nuts with questions. Sorry Vic.
I want a P/J 5-string because I sold my Fender Custom Shop 5er 1 year ago and have not replaced it. I vowed that my next 5er would be Sadowsky but I believe that the holy grail for 60's-70's rock, blues, etc. is Alder/Braz rw. I'd like to save the $$ to get the holy grail to play thru my GK head/Ampeg cab and to record direct into the computer. But it will be awhile since funds are pretty low and work is slow to boot. I've even been thinking of getting a Metro 5er and settling for Morado.

Hey Rob, what pickup placement does Roger use? I am trying to figure out what combo I'd like as well...I know the Ash/Maple sound but have never tried a Sadowsky with Alder/RW... I imagine the Alder/RW is also a killer combo but does the pickup placement change with the wood selection?

I like having the VTC, at least in concept, but admit that I have yet to use it for either a gig or any tracking that I've done. Then again, it is a PJ (heresy), I don't care for JJ tone (more heresy), and I actually think it sounds best passive (burn him!!!). Plus I run my Ashdown head flat/eq-out (heathen!!!)

Actually also trying to figure out how I want the NYC PJ to spec out (want a lighter weight version of what I've got now). Definitely alder/rw, maybe no pickguard, 59 burst, maybe a sassy top (mmm, spalted maple).

On nyc's, wood does not affect where RS has the pickups routed. The model does. Also, with nyc's, you pretty much can do whatever u like. Joker has a cool nyc 5 with 70s' placements loaded with nordys. Metros are a diff story. If their case, you have to read the specs and go with it. There are no "options" They come the way they come

I prefer ash bodies/maple boards. Ive had everything else, though. They all sound cool. Wish I could have one of each but just cant. Might be cool to go the other way, Cat, with ur 5. Morado is cool. Snappier than Braz, closer to maple I think. I have a real cool ash/morado nyc 4 I did hundreds of gigs with. It killed. Sold it, of course. LOL. If u go Morado, you prolly can find a killer metro and be happy

Check out my profile pic for my collection. My red Sadowsky is shown there and on page 6 of this Part 11. The Fender AM Vin 75 reissue is currently up for sale in the classifieds to fund yet another 4-string bass on order (another mfr) shhhhhhh. The other Fender Am Vin 62 reissue is a keeper at this point - it was made very well and sounds fabulous with Sadowsky flats!

Re: Morade....it's just that I am not so sure I want a "snappier" or "punchier" tone for the 5-string. I'm a finger-picker not a slapper. I guess I'd have to hear the difference if that is even possible.

Kinda splitting hairs, Cat. If I was forced to compare them all, thats how I would describe those boards. Its still a nice sounding fretboard. I had a cool NYC PJ, braz board/alder body. Def rounder and mellower. The pj contributed to it, also. Im sure you can get a killer finger tone from an alder/morade metro 5.
