Great stuff in this thread. Thanks for the information and the great pics.

Ok, so I did the pickguard swap on the UV. Kinda' seems like a no-brainer, but here are the before & after shots...

IMO the bass now looks as it sounds....too cool for school. :D

I was so happy with the results that I played a bit with a 35mm lens that a fellow Nikonhead let me borrow...

For the guy asking about ash/rosewood -- there are lots of great 70's Ps and Js out there with that combo. I love it, its a great combination of tight and snappy, but round on top. If I were ordering a new NYC it would almost certainly be solid ash with Madagascar based on these comments.

I ordered a UV Metro 5 string in ash/morado combo 2 weeks ago.
Let's hear how that combo sounds.

I think it will be a perfect addition to my ash/maple MV5 and the alder/brz NYC rev.PJ5

Yes, Chef, I am aware.
I have been thinking long on this one, but I prefer Oly White with a tort guard and a dark FB.
With a light board I'd get the exact same combo as VroomVroom: maple board, transparent white with a pearl PG.

BTW, I am disappointed I missed BartmanPDX's sale of the UV ASH/MORADO/SC (now chris.gotfunk's) some time ago :(

After much thought, I mailed the shop yesterday to ask whether it would be possible to change my 4-string NYC on order to a 5-string as I have been amazed at my Metro 5-24's neck. (I have never been much of a 5-string nut until I got the metro, a month ago...)

20 minutes later Kevin had already mailed me stating that although my body was out of paint shop, it would be no problem and they would start from scratch as they feel I should get "what I really, truly want"...

Barely a couple of hours later I got this:

telling me they found this body for my 5-string, if I didn't mind...

Again, a show of how Sadowsky is a first class company with premium customer care... Just amazed at everything they do...

The thing is that the whole Sadowsky crew is tuned in to Roger's customer service philosophy. My dealings with everyone there at the shop is on the same page. This is just another example of world class customer service.

BTW really nice quilt on that top!

That's a beautiful top. Please don't tell me you're planning on ruining it by having a pickguard put on! :eek:

Totally agreed. The combo of oly white, tort guard, and a rosewood fingerboard is still way high on my list of favorites. That was my original desire for an alder/60's bass, btw.

I think I've mentioned this before, but it took me a while to like the look of this one. My initial "ideal" look of an ash/maple UV70 was for a natural finish, black guard, and black blocks & binding. This one was believed to have been ordered in a natural finish, and the rep at my local store was as surprised as I was to see it in trans white. When I first test drove it I actually thought to myself that I hoped I didn't like the sound, because I really didn't care much for the look. Well...so much for that. :D Reminder of the sin of vanity applied in full: it's all about the sound, right? ;)

The ironic thing is that the trans white finish has grown on me to the extent that I now love it, particularly against the maple board and pearl white blocks. The pearl guard is truly like icing on the cake.

If I ever go back to fivers, I'll kick myself mercilessly for having sold that one. Chris ended up with a REALLY sweet bass -- that thing had the most amazing tone. Best 5-string Jazz I've ever played, hands down.

...Hmmmm...actually ...yes ( ducks for cover...) I was, well, am planning on caramel burst with a tortoise pickguard... with the Birds eye Maple neck that should look grand... But I must admist that I have been zooming the picture for quite some time to see which parts the pickguard would cover... am I in need for therapy?
